Please feel free to foward this information. Susan and I want to thank everyone for their prayers. It is amazing. We are trying to communicate as well as we can. Please do not reply as it is getting very difficult to manage. He is at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany and we heard from the surgeon this morning: Left arm 70 % burned - 2nd and 3rd degree Right arm 90% burned - " Back of head, back and butt - " Face - some 2nd degree burns but eyes appear to be OK Both tibias broke below knees and have been externally set. Compound with exposed bone but Ortho docs think it will be OK. A couple of broke bones in one foot All organs are OK and there are no chest injuries Brain ct scan was good. He does have some minor soot damage to lungs and trachea ane he is a breathing tube thru the trachea. It will be OK and Doc said he could breath on his own but wants him to heal some. No spinal/nerve damage and good circulation to feet and hands. He was the only one hurt in this incident. We still do not have details but apparently an IED went off under his driver position in the Stryker vehicle. They cleared a perimeter and coptered him to a hospital. We expect him to be sent to the burn unit in San Antonio within the next 48 hrs. We are trying to decide whether to start driving back home ASAP and fly from there or abandon the truck and fly to San Antonio from here.

continued prayers, tom, that he gets the best medical care possible. i pray too that they are managing his pain.
I'm so sorry to read this assessment. Your nephew will require much support and understanding as he heals, and I will pray that you and he are strong. Fortunately, the SA Burn center will treat him well and put him beyond the normal, negligent govt vets' health care nightmare. But, after that is when the problems are likely to begin, and that's where I hope the family can be strong, determined and not let the govt push you over some precipice. God bless him and all of you. He and you will be in my prayers.
It is good news that he is apparently OK, no arms/legs/etc taken from his body, and he'll recover. thanks for sharing the news. having said that please don't mis-understand. I am extremely broken up & disrupted as a person with the knowledge that these injuries & much worse injuries happen to 20 or more Americans every single day due to that war.

I know they're horrible injuries with the burns. Didn't mean to say he'll be OK. but I meant it could've been much worse. He'll at least be able to live a normal life is what I meant. I have a triage mentality.

Just got the latest and most complete update on Adam. An IED, (improvised >explosive devise) exploded pretty much under him, the driver, about >midnight yesterday morning. No one else in the Stryker was injured. The >blast impact resulted in compound fractures in both legs below the knees. >He suffered second degree burns to face and head (4%), arms (9%) and legs >and buttocks (20%).
