As opponents from the right and left challenge an immigration bill before Congress, there is broad support among Americans — Democrats, Republicans and independents alike — for the major provisions in the legislation, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

This is a great example of advocacy journalism, and one of the main reasons Reid, et al, delayed the vote on the bill in the Senate. They initially met some resistance, but over the course of the next month expect lots and lots of pro-illegal articles like this. The dopey sheeple....it's soooooooo over.

I spotted that headline on the home page, and thought, "That has to be spin".

NYT - the same people who published Judith Miller and carried the pro invasion propaganda for the administration. This poll is pure bullshit.

The poll is actaully pretty jumbled. Here are the actual results:

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/20070525poll.pdf

I think question 61 asks if illegal aliens should be prosecuted and 69% say yes. I think the poll shows people don't hate illegal aliens, and that they try not to be cruel to them, but that they don't like them here.

There is little doubt in my mind that this 'immigration reform bill' will be passed and it will have everything in it that "jorge the Great" wants.

Never swear "allegiance" to anything other than the 'right to change your mind'!

I thought I heard on Lou Dobbs the other night that the New York Times had come out against the immigration deal in an editorial.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

They may have trouble getting the bill through the House.

I'd like to know who is participating in these polls. Certainly they aren't asking me - my phone does not ring with their calls.

In California they say 80% of people advocate amnesty. No kidding. Dial any random number and you're likely to get an illegal in that state.

With the number of lawbreakers we have in this country, polls are useless.

Forget the polls. They say whatever the elite central planners want them to say. It's all about creating a "reality" for us.

polls are used to shape public opinion. They have no validity since we have no idea who is polled, if anyone at all. This particular poll is pure propaganda.
