Minuteman's time may be up, monitor says

Friday, May 25th 2007, 4:00 AM

The anti-immigrant Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is "imploding" over allegations that money raised to build an elaborate border fence has done a vanishing act, a hate-group monitor said yesterday.

The ruckus began when several MCDC leaders were fired after trying to confront President Chris Simcox about the whereabouts of as much as $1.8 million raised to build the fence and provide radios and night-vision scopes for border vigilantes.

"By now you have probably heard rumors ... about a massive purge of your National and State Leaders. These rumors are true," ousted Deputy Executive Director Bob Wright wrote Monday in a mass e-mail to MCDC members. The e-mail was obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremist groups.

He and 13 other rebels vowed to go to the media unless they are reinstated today.

Minuteman spokesman Bryan Rudnick blamed what he called a minor flap on members "who are mad that they don't get to be Chris Simcox" and want to get on TV.

"All the money is accounted for," he said.

The SPLC said the infighting was taking an enormous toll on the anti-immigrant group, which it said "seems to be imploding."

Rudnick denied the organization was in the midst of a meltdown. "In fact, I would say it's strengthening. Our focus is strictly on the legislation," he said.

They're really packing all of Mo Dees' favorite buzzwords in there for him, aren't they? No agenda with this writer, nuh-huh, no siree.

This is part of the month long pro-illegal immigration assault I expect to see from the MSM.

for sure this is part of the propaganda as you say.

But my comment is - I live in arizona - last year before the election there were ads run on tv & radio paid for by the Minutemen, and these ads were all supporting Republican politicians. The Republicans have always been extremely pro-immigration including pro-illegal immigration. Let's not forget it was Republican leaders of the US Senate who decided in 1986 that employers would not be required to check that the new-hires are really legal residents before hiring them. In other words Republicans are responsible for the 25 million illegal immigrants in our country. and Republicans support legislation to massively increase immigration levels.

So the Minutemen as far as I'm concerned are a fraud already. IMHO they've been infiltrated.

We had a few posters here a year ago who actually joined and went to the border. I told them then that the idea was wonderful, but in time the group would be infiltrated and eventually collapse. I was called every name in the book by one head case (Are you listening Bucky?) but in the end it appears I was right. When no less a power than the President calls them vigilantes, you know their days are numbered.
