Just held a graduation party for my valedictoran daughter. One of the attendents was Debbie, the consummate medical professional. Though not a doctor, she is really one, as she is extreamly bright and highly ranked in her profession, and I know why from knowing her for five years.
I told her about the situation with Adam, my nephew severly injured in Iraq. I told her that the Army says he has second degree burns, a great relief. Yet his mother this morning relays that his arms are quote "simply black".
Debbie grimices as I say this, and says quietly that "simply black" is not a second degree burn.
I know she is right, as she tells me this - I guess I just wanted to think it was not third degree burns.
So the army is lying about his situation. Anyone shocked??
Now for the real story. Believe Debbie, I do.
She has a close friend who is about 50 yo and a career solider in the US Army. Don, two weeks ago was severely injured in an IED, just like my nephew Adam.
He was sent to Walter Reed. His family went to Waler Reed. He was six days in the system from Iraq to Germany to WR.
When they finially got to him - this is shocking and horrifing - he had contracted an infection so serious that one leg was amputated. the other leg may need to be amputated as well.
He was NEVER CLEANED FROM THE ORIGINAL ATTACK. HE WAS NEVER CLEANED FROM THE ORIGINAL ATTACK.
Yes that's correct - his grevious wounds were never attended to at the battlefield, or for six days to Walter Reed, and when his pitiful family found him he still had the filth from the battlefield upon him.
His amputee wound drain bag was overflowing, backing up into the wound. They themselves drained it, as he was being ignored by the staff.
They used baby wipes to clean his crusted blood off from his body SIX DAYS AFTER HE WAS WOUNDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody cared.
She said it was a hall of horrors. Kids with their faces blown off being wharehoused in this huge monstrousity of a building. Kids missing limbs, other grevious wounds hanging in these decaying dirty halls.
A NIGHTMARE, A FILTHY NIGHTMARE.
She reports the front was gleeming clean. well lit and friendly.
But once you went behind to the real wards it was unreal as to the horrors and filth.
I believe Debbie a hell of alot more than I believe Colin Powell, Doug Feith, Paul Woulforitz, Dick Cheney, Bush Fox News and the rest of the war party crowd.
Our government is very sick, a vampire feeding upon the body of the US.

One of my friends told me his late mother used to help out at the VA. She said there were wards that she was not allowed in. Still, the ones she did go into, when she got home, didn't have much to say for two or three days. But, as we all know, it was for a patriotic cause. Making the ultimate sacrifice, as the disgusting Freepers put it.

Debbie (a firecracker) called the Colorado Federal Rep, Doug Lamborn to give them a little of her well informed mind. She spoke to a Legislative aide who only replied that "I thought we had fixed that". So it is obvious that no one is going beyound the facade. There is no money in it. SICK SICK SICK

This is deeply disturbing.. those idiots that are pro-war pro-Bush and pro rightwing idiocy.. say they're supporting the troops .. we knew it was bullshit but not the extent of it.. now trying to find something positive .. the good thing is that now your family knows and therefore they'll know to be demanding.. ask questions.. push for the right care for your nephew. oh tom... what on earth has this country become..

You know we read from actually an Army Times article that a congressional committee that was investigating this had documented that Haliburton was hired to take over some things at Walter Reed. and the Army Times article said that the congressional committee had uncovered that much of the Walter Reed staff was demoralized because Haliburton was given key functions. It said some people had quit over it and that this staff turnover & demoralization combined with Haliburton taking over functions is what hurt the hospital's ability to do its job. they play mind games with us in the mass media. Great evil is what they really are. and they want us to accept it. the only way this could happen is if it is done on purpose. The military people would never let this happen unless it was specifically a priority to do so. They follow orders.

that was such a huge news story. and we did read it in Army Times. that Haliburton was actually hired to take over some functions at Walter Reed. and that occurred well before the public media flap about the low quality of care in that hospital. and Army Times obviously was referring to some public records, the congressional investigation. and the mass media just ignored this story. controlled media.

Is San Antonio as bad as Walter Reed? from what I can tell the SA unit is the best around. So I am happy with that. I am unaware of private care sector capable or willing to take on damage as this. The hospital that he is at TRAINS trauma doctors. This is some sick stuff.
Here is a testimonial from a WRAMC Nurse who seems to have a view similar to many of us here on 4um, plus the inside view of day to day life in that hell. I am an Army Nurse Corps Captain stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington DC. I feel compelled to share with anyone who will listen what I have seen. You see, when Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) troops are evacuated out of Germany, the huge majority are brought here to WRAMC by Air Force flight nurses and docs. I do not have access to any of the numbers of how many wounded and what types of injuries, etc., but I can honestly tell you that the OIF wounded occupy more than half of our two major intensive care units at any given time. At times, we get so full while expecting more to arrive, that we have to hound the docs to transfer somebody out of our unit to a ward upstairs so we have beds for these soldiers. Most of these wounded soldiers come into our unit on a ventilator breathing for them, with severe wounds caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or AK-47 gunshot wounds. Many, many soldiers have already lost limbs or eyes before they even get to us, and many have received dozens of units of blood before they left Germany. I am privileged to take care of these brave men and women. But it breaks my heart to realize that the incredible losses that they and their loved ones will have to deal with for the rest of their lives seem to have not been for the good of our country. Rather, their pain and sorrow have merely allowed a few greedy souls to make a power grab for more wealth and control. One of my dear friends has tried to convince me that this is all part of God’s plan, and the death and pain is for some greater purpose that our leaders are not telling us yet. I wish I could believe her. It would make my job and daily life much easier, but I cannot buy it. I apologize to the reader for my tangential thought processes, but this never-ending situation is getting to many military nurses. Anyway, the following is my main point in reaching out to you. As you might be aware, the press is being tightly controlled and what is being reported from a medical standpoint is only a fraction of the true reality. Yes, I do believe the daily number of killed that CNN and whoever report is accurate. What I am saying is that the walking wounded are being sorely ignored. Don’t believe me? Walter Reed is an open base, not a tightly controlled fort. Just have a valid ID and consent to a vehicle search. Then park, and walk inside. You will see so many 20-something, mostly men, missing arms, legs, and eyes. The blinders covering your eyes will be ripped away as you see the poor families making their daily walk from the Malogne house to the wards and units to see their sons or husbands. It is so sad to see a young wife or fiancée cry over her honey who was in Iraq less than one month before losing both legs, and who has had several abdominal surgeries that leave his belly crisscrossed with staples, and now he is fighting for his life from the infection that the injuries have caused. And that is just one example of what I saw this week. I will spare you any more wrenching true stories. God help our men and women in uniform. Please do something to end this madness. We have no sterile cure. Transmitted Sexually, Congenitally, and by Blood Transfusion Leishmaniasis can take up to twenty years to present itself in a healthy person. Tom I am horrified, almost speechless. I am so sorry for your nephew and your family, and all the many wounded kids who will lose limbs and/or die. This sounds like something out of a horror movie. Just don't know what to say but this sounds very, very bad from many angles.

Some things that come to mind... Your nephew is most likely enlisted. Jorge Bush has an attending military physician in the Whitehouse 24/7. On my entry into the military long ago, an old pre WW2 soldier told me, "Never have anything to do with military medicine, stay away". Basic premise, rank has its privleges, all others are short changed, always been that way and will never change.

worse...yesterday on tv i saw the criminal-in-chief say, 'i salute you', or was it 'i honor you' for your service, to some veterans, and then he put his girly hand to his brow....i wanted to puke even before i read what happened to your nephew.

"Support our troops" is just a buzz-phrase used by the Bush administration and its shills that really means "support the government and the war." The warmongers in office and in the media care not a bit about the well-being of the troops, as massive cuts to veteran's benefits and programs have proven.
Smart Americans have to take premptive action in order to avoid such horrors in the first place. How long ago did your nephew join the service??
