MEXICO CITY (AP) - A woman considered to be one of the main instigators of a mob that killed two federal agents last year on the outskirts of Mexico City was taken into custody Friday, the federal Attorney General's office said.
Guadalupe Perez faces charges of homicide and causing injury, the Attorney General's office said in a statement.
In November, two agents were burned alive and a third was nearly beaten to death by a crowd on the outskirts of Mexico City. The killings were broadcast on live television, and prompted widespread criticism of federal and local authorities who failed to arrive in time.
Local residents said they believed the agents were kidnappers - something federal authorities denied. Many Mexican police have been caught taking part in kidnappings across Mexico.
Friday's statement said three witnesses told federal investigators that Perez urged the crowd to "kill, lynch, burn and castrate" the agents.
A federal judge ordered her arrest months ago, but she went into hiding. She was arrested at her sister's house in eastern Mexico City.
She is among 35 people detained in connection with the killings.
