Rudolph Guiliani, in Tuesday night's Republican candidates debate in New Hampshire your comments on the Iraq War constituted far more than political error. They labeled you as a disgrace unfit to serve in any political office, much less the presidency.

In response to a question about the Iraq War you created a world of pathetic fantasy and sought to present this view not only as fact, but also with a tinge of counterfeit patriotism as you heralded George W. Bush's actions as a necessary means to combat world terrorism.

After tossing your ceremonial bouquets at your political hero George Bush, you then declared that because of an action you heralded as courageous, invading Iraq, Americans were now safer than they had been previous to that first shock and awe assault on Baghdad.

A March 20, 2007 editorial in the Los Angeles Times finds results of the Iraq War far less satisfying than Cheney-Bush neocon cheerleader Guiliani. The nation has become a an international refugee tragedy, as delineated in one succinct paragraph:

"Of a(n) (Iraq) population of about 27 million, at least 1.9 are now internally displaced; another 2 million have sought refuge abroad, mostly in Jordan and Syria but also in Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt and elsewhere, according to the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees." Then there are the deaths. According to recent surveys the Iraqi death toll currently stands at somewhere between 600,000 and 1 million. There are American deaths as well, Mr. Guiliani, but Bush and the Republicans do not wish for us to see those flag-draped coffins or returning service personnel returning home devoid of limbs.

You called the Iraq War one of the greatest military actions in American history. It has been so successful that the vast majority of Iraqis are angrily demanding us to leave forthwith. National polls consistently reveal that over 70 percent of Americans believe that the war was a mistake and that it should be immediately ended.

By stating that Americans are somehow now safer as a result of launching the Iraq War would seemingly imply that you believe that there may well have been weapons of mass destruction there and that Saddam Hussein was linked to Al Qaeda. Do you believe this, Sir? If not, then please tell us how Americans are somehow safer resulting from military action in Iraq.

We know that there is one member in the U.S. Senate who has recently stated his belief that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He is Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and he has taken over the mantle of "madman in the attic" relinquished by the retirement of Senator Zell Miller of Georgia.

As far as can be determined, even the fanatical Senator DeMint has not proclaimed a link between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden since this fallacious claim once stated by Dick Cheney has been so resoundingly refuted. What with you focusing on the safety factor, Mr. Guiliani, do you see such a link?

A lot of us know, Mr. Guiliani, that the pattern of lies that Bush used as a pretext of invading Iraq came from legendary Iraqi conman Ahmad Chalibi, and he was paid over a million dollars by the U.S. government courtesy of arch neocon propagandists Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle to feed Americans those lies.

Judith Miller of the New York Times was used as a conduit without telling her the real nature and background of that information or its source.

Where do you get the idea that Americans are safer because Halliburton and Bechtel now have a base in Iraq? According to the National Priorities Project the current price tag for the war, Mr. Guiliani, is over $432 billion and quickly soaring.

This huge and steadily mounting war bill detracts from efforts to shore up port and airport security. As recently noted, youngsters with box cutters have proven how easy it is to penetrate airport security while the country remains tragically exposed to terrorist activities in major shipping areas, particularly through bomb detonation.

Let's pose a question. Mr. Guiliani: Do you really believe we are safer now from foreign threat than before Cheney and Bush took office? If so, on what do you base this conclusion?

If you really wanted to do all you could to enhance the safety of Americans, Mr. Guiliani, then as New York's mayor at the time of and following the 9/11 tragedies you should have left no stones unturned in seeking answers on why and how the death and destruction occurred.

As a former U.S. Attorney you certainly should have known the importance and value of evidence, Mr. Guiliani. You surely know that evidence tampering in a criminal investigation is a felony.

That being the case, why did you order that the steel from the buildings that were destroyed at 9/11 be shipped as scrap to China and India? What might we have learned from a thorough investigation of those remains?

Ah, but you also entered into the realm of health care in last night's debate, and again puzzling questions arise. Once more a flat assertion was made without any supporting evidence, as in the case of Iraq.

You stated flatly that the Democratic Party's presidential candidates were all proposing "socialized medicine" as their means of addressing the nation's health care problems.

Just as you failed to mention Iraq refugee problems or casualties, you never mentioned about the U.S. Census finding reported August 30, 2005 that the number of uninsured Americans stood at 45.8 million as of 2004. Rather than address this point you used the old scare tactic of the Republican right and labeled the dreaded "socialism" word.

Actually these candidates seek to make the same kind of health care available for regular Americans that you received when you were on the government payroll. I do not recall reading anything about any complaints from you then, Mr. Guiliani. If the health care system was that odious then why did you accept it without so much as a peep?

After a series of disagreements we will end on a note of harmony. On one point we are in total agreement, Mr. Guiliani. You have stated a deep and abiding admiration for George W. Bush. It appears that you are seeking to emulate Bush.

Well, on that point we agree! You are so much like Bush, Mr. Guiliani, that if you took over for him tomorrow the only differences I would expect to discern would be in accent and appearance.
