BOSTON May 15, 2005 — Former U.S. Rep. Gerry Studds, the first openly gay member of Congress, quietly married his longtime partner last year after same-sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts, according to a published report.

Studds, a liberal Democrat who spent more than 20 years in Congress, married Dean Hara in Boston on May 24, the Patriot Ledger of Quincy reported Sunday.

Studds, 68, and Hara, 47, declined to comment for the Ledger's story.

First elected to Congress in 1973, Studds built a loyal constituency that returned him to Washington with an average of nearly 70 percent of the vote over 12 elections.

That loyalty was tested in 1983 when it was revealed that Studds had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male congressional page. He publicly acknowledged being gay and was censured by the House for sexual misconduct.

Studds admitted an error in judgment but did not apologize, and in 1984 was re-elected with 56 percent of the vote.

Tuesday is the one-year anniversary of legal gay marriage in Massachusetts. More than 6,000 same-sex couples have gotten married in the past year.

It's not faggy when Republicans do it.

I didn't say it wasn't.

I'm not so sure I buy the bot defense of special circumstances for Repbuplicans either.

Boston Creme Puffs?

Really though, this guy is no hypocrite, so he only makes an "honorable" mention in this category. Sorry.

I wonder if Studds was where Gannon got the inspiration for the name of his website? :P

blandfaceofevil

Is that anything like being boredtodeath?

You could always sign up to blog for $$ with a second (or even third) screen name. You could get argue with yourself all day, and get paid for it :)

Why don't you just sign up for it? Maybe let Christine know what you were doing. It would add a nice sinister touch to the site. It could be your secret identity. Sort of like Batman. Maybe you could fight crime on the site.

Absolutely. There's still plenty of material here; his last name for starters!

So then, I guess I shouldn't apply for the position of "Boy Wonder" to Dakmar's BlandFaceOfEvil?

Men in tights is an acquired taste, I'm thinking. Was there much prancing? I don't remember.

If Dak's behind it, it's probably OK. But just to be safe you could be the "Happily Married and Middle Aged Wonder".
