But…but…but…that’s UNPOSSIBLE! The news was grim. Nine firefighters were killed after fire collapsed the roof at the Sofa Super Store, a former Piggly Wiggly on a busy retail highway. The deaths are the worst loss of firefighters since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Hrm. Anybody see any Bush admin stooges lurking around with detonators tucked under their trenchcoats? Anyone? Snark aside, my condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this tragic event, and to Charleston’s fire/rescue community. And a big fat “kiss my ass” to you Truther halfwits and your crackbrained conspiracy theories, right up to and including Ron Paul.

I've thought about this tragic event and I can't tell you how many times I've seen fireman, in empty buildings, long after any person w/o fire protection could reasonably be expected to survive. It never, ever made sense to me. I realize I'm probably a committee of one, but they all too often risk their lives unnecessarily, IMO. BTW, only a full blown ‘bot could connected this to 911 and Truthers

"can of corn" is a baseball euphemism for a pop fly that's easily catchable. If a hitter hits a "can of corn", he is nearly always put OUT! Lame pop flies are a good metaphor for everything "can of corn" posts. His postings are lazy, easily caught and put out. They never advance the bases or score any points. As such, "can of corn"'s name is most appropriate.

Isn't it wonderful how Bush and the Rs have led the Fox News lemmings off the side of a cliff? Their movement, their war and their socialist social programs have been fully exposed and rejected. The Free Republic has gone from being a formidable forum to a true echo chamber. The same applies to El Pee. I don't get it. this store was a highrise? hit by a plane? is this purported to be a terrorist act? I don't have an ax to grind on the wtc, as I'm still studying the issue and keeping an open mind. but I don't see how this sad and tragic incident affects the discussion at all. what's the connection?
Maybe that fire can weaken steel truss supports even on buildings with relatively little load causing it to collapse? And without a plane crasing into it at 500 mph? But it's probably true that Bush and the Joos blew this building up, too.

If it is anything like most of the cheap new steel warehouse buildings, it is made out of 18 gauge sheet metal. They don't use steel beams, just 18 gauge "c" or "z" channel, and self drilling #12 screws to hold it all together.

those types of roofs are always built in wood you idiot. they'll have steel columns and an almost entirely wood roof. wood purlins, wood joists, wood sheathing. those types of roofs frequently collapse in a fire.
