YMCA’s Camp Cosby offers psychologically intense slavery reenactments; some children can’t finish indoctrination sessions.

Editor’s note: The damage caused to the self-esteem and identity of the innocent White children who experience these culturally debasing “living history” programs is immeasurable. Of course, the usual suspects have presented themselves. Spearheading the efforts to destroy White social cohesion are the National Camp Association’s executive director Jeff Solomon and Camp Cosby’s camping services coordinator Chris Oldenburg. Take a stand today against psychological child abuse by calling Jeff Solomon at 845-354-5626 and voicing your displeasure at their destructive agenda. –DM

THE 50 CHILDREN, only one of whom is black, were experiencing the cruelties inflicted upon slaves who tried to escape north through the Underground Railroad.

“Slaves had to go through that every day and I only did it for an hour,” said 11-year-old Nicole Wallis, who was so frightened that she left the living history program halfway through.

The reenactment at the YMCA’s Camp Cosby, about 45 miles east of Birmingham, is one of several nationwide, but uniquely intense. Camp counselors attempt to give a realistic perspective about slavery to fourth- and fifth-grade students by dressing as slave traders, bounty hunters and abolitionist and sending students on a risky journey through the dense woods surrounding the camp.

this is a completely false statement. Only a small minority of American slaves in that period experienced this. Many were treated very well IN FACT. The reality is that in the year 1800 the American slave population of the american south had a higher material standard of living than the peasants of Europe in that same year. The American south was the wealthiest place in the world per capital in the year 1800. This wealth did trickle down to the slaves even. They ate better and lived better than the european peasants of that day. Landlords in Europe did in fact have the same legal authority over the peasants on the land as the slaveowners in the old south. An American slave-owner would commonly be prosecuted for murder if he killed one of his slaves, but in Europe during the same period it was not that way if a landlord had a peasant on his land killed.

The child has been brainwashed.

I see that "educators" who oversimplify history for political purposes continue to prosper as they did when I was behind a desk at school.

"They ate better and lived better than the european peasants of that day. Landlords in Europe did in fact have the same legal authority over the peasants on the land as the slaveowners in the old south."

Europe ia a big place, and it is as difficult to make blanket statements about the nature and quality of the conditions of serfdom from Spain to the Urals as it is to characterize the life of slaves in the American South. The Emancipation Proclamation came at the end of a long period of change, from the 1750s to the 1850s, during which the rights of European nobles to the bodily ownership of peasantry was gradually extinguished. Bit by bit, these serfs were freed, and many became sharecroppers. Like American slaves, the treatment afforded serf by their lords varied. They could not be individually bought or sold. However in Russia, serfs could be rented out to the government as soldiers and European rulers could render title to the turf that sustained their serfs (which a Duke might do if he lost heavily at cards) but they could not part the serf from the soil.
