YMCA’s Camp Cosby offers psychologically intense slavery reenactments; some children can’t finish indoctrination sessions.
Editor’s note: The damage caused to the self-esteem and identity of the innocent White children who experience these culturally debasing “living history” programs is immeasurable. Of course, the usual suspects have presented themselves. Spearheading the efforts to destroy White social cohesion are the National Camp Association’s executive director Jeff Solomon and Camp Cosby’s camping services coordinator Chris Oldenburg. THE 50 CHILDREN, only one of whom is black, were experiencing the cruelties inflicted upon slaves who tried to escape north through the Underground Railroad.
“Slaves had to go through that every day and I only did it for an hour,” said 11-year-old Nicole Wallis, who was so frightened that she left the living history program halfway through.
The reenactment at the YMCA’s Camp Cosby, about 45 miles east of Birmingham, is one of several nationwide, but uniquely intense. Camp counselors attempt to give a realistic perspective about slavery to fourth- and fifth-grade students by dressing as slave traders, bounty hunters and abolitionist and sending students on a risky journey through the dense woods surrounding the camp.

I know a kid I'd like to send to this program, but he's probably too old. He's the boy who ran his SUV up on the sidewalk today as my son was standing there. I saw the two--count 'em, two--black "W" stickers on the back windshield as the dumbshit drove away. Another genius for Bush. On second thought, perhaps this young driver would rather go to Iraq than to Camp Cosby. ("Dad, I finally got that Humvee I wanted!")
