Four defected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) say the US is providing arms and ammunition for the militant group. The four defectors, who entered Turkey through northern Iraq, in a news conference on Sunday said that they witnessed American armored vehicles had delivered weapons to PKK guerillas in Mount Ghandil in northern Iraq.
They also confessed that remote-controlled landmines used by the militants in Turkey are being trafficked in through northern Iraq.
Landmine attacks have become a hallmark of PKK offensives against Turkish army since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
The militants plant the explosives near the roads and detonate them by mobile phones and wireless remote controls.
The PKK has stepped up its attacks in recent months, prompting Turkey to mull sending troops into Iraq.
The group took up arms for self-rule in the mainly Kurdish provinces of southeastern Turkey in 1984. The conflict has claimed more than 37,000 lives.
