The only legal ones are sparklers and such, and the people who wish to see fireworks are encouraged to go where professional fireworks displays are scheduled events for the holidays. Needless to say, on the night before the 4th and for the next couple of nights there are many detonations and gun shots heard all around, and on these lawless nights the cops never cruise through the neighborhoods. I think I know why. IF someone wished to take a shot at a cop car that would be the time to do it. Not only would it be impossible to locate the shooter because of the holiday noise but even nosy neighbors who would call the cops on any other night and help locate the shooter won't call because they can't tell what is part of the celebration or a shot fired in anger, either. So, if the cops are dispatched to calls for any reason on the 4th (and the 3rd and 5th) they come down my street at 100 MPH, possibly with emergency lights but no sirens as if they're responding code two when in reality they're scared to leave the main highways and cruise normally to their calls or even patrol routinely, because they know they could be shot and it would be almost impossible to locate the shooter! These are the only times when I see and hear cops driving at those speeds without sirens. Because accredited police agencies must keep records and file reports when they use sirens, it's a dead giveaway when they drive that fast without sirens. They're too scared to drive at normal speeds and cannot use the siren unless granted permission to do so or have initiated a pursuit!
Poster Comment: This is something to think about in the event of "social unrest" in America. The police will either stay away and citizens in trouble will be on their own, or they will come in great numbers and at high speeds and pass through quickly. Because DE is a police state and the cops are especially arrogant and "in control" this isn't a subject for polite discussion in my state. And, most people who regard it as their right to fire their shooting irons off don't even realize that the normally swaggering cops are intimidated. Delawareans are a lot like horses. Neither understand that they have the power to throw their riders at any time, and both are trained to respond to authority without question....
