Hey all.

On Saturday my Aunt had a stroke. A very severe one. She was taken to a University Hospital where they did surgery to relieve the pressure in her brain. It wasn't enough, and at 5:30 yesterday they turned off life support functions, and she passed on to the next world.

Not but two weeks before, my grandmother was diagnosed with terminal cancer, giving her 6 months to a year.

This is why I haven't been posting a whole bunch, lots of weird stuff going on in the family.

Thanks for reading. Subscribe to *You Gotta Be Shitting Me*

I'm okay, it's the rest of my family that I'm worried about.

My sympathies, Tommy...I hate dealing with heartache...it's one of the most miserable feelings a person has to deal with throughout their lifetime.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. You're about my age, and I just lost my grandmother last year. She had failed kidneys and was riddled with cancer, so we all had plenty of time to get used to the idea, anyway.

My grandma on the other side went to Mayo and found out she had brain cancer. She was dead within a week of diagnosis, I think because she just said "Well, that's it, then," and gave up.

Cancer is a funny beast--it seems to have a lot to do with the patient's outlook or determination to survive. I hope you get to spend a lot of extra time with her, no matter what the outcome. FWIW, I haven't noticed that family deaths come in threes...

If she's determined to beat it, I could ask my father to pass along some resources. He's a naturopath, and you may not have a lot of respect for that profession, but why not use every tool at her disposal?

BTW, the wife and I might be having a "no kids" party at the end of the month. If you and yours want to come down, we'd be glad to have you. Just a mellow time, maybe have a fire, tip a few, etc.

Tomorrow I am burying my Father In Law at Lake Charles, Louisiana. After a 18 hour all night drive.

Tommy I am so sorry to hear this, it must be hard on the family.

One of my aunts who had no health problems (up to now) was rushed to the hospital a couple days ago for a heart operation, luckily she is doing okey. Another aunt had a collapsed lung last week, she's okey now too.

I've been thinking how many of us are at a stage in life when the parents generation is starting to go, I have one aunt I am very close to, she's in great health so far, but I dread the day when she passes on.

My prayers go out to your family.

Indrid,

It's pretty extensive. She's got a naturopath she's talking to now, because the docs pretty well told her she had a couple choices. Chemo, Radiation, and be sick and die from it, or just let it run its course, and have a better quality of life up to the end.

It's nice how the medical profession gives you those kinds of choices.

At any rate, it's all about perspective and all about the attitude. She says she only feels tired, and that it's not really feeling like she's dying.

I have spent a lot of time on the phone with relatives, and what not playing catch up. That part is a positive.

When you mention that these things come in threes, you're right. Last night another important part of my life bought the farm. My Gas Grill crapped out on me.

All kidding aside, things will be fine in time. It's just a zoo right now.

Dying for old bastards, and their old money, isn't my idea of freedom.

I am so sorry for you, that is really a terrible thing. Nobody should have to go through something like that.
