Traffic Safety Programs

Residents who live in neighborhoods that are perceived to have a speeding problem are eligible to participate in the Traffic Safety Program. The program requires that at least two adults from the neighborhood attend a radar training session with a police officer. Upon completion of the program, residents are eligible to borrow radar equipment to use in their neighborhood. Speed watchers report the license plates of speeding vehicles to the Division of Police. A courtesy letter is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.

The Traffic Safety Program also includes the use of an automated speed-monitoring trailer. This trailer is battery and solar panel powered and is able to monitor traffic patterns in a given neighborhood for several days at a time. The unit records the number of vehicles and the speed of each vehicle. This data is used to identify any traffic-related problems.

Poster Comment:

What a lovely way to keep the neighborhood asshat busy. They all belong on Hal Turner's suicide prevention list.

Tough call.

I think that I'd rather have this, than those insane traffic "calming" devices like speed bumps, jut-outs, etc.

Several years ago, I walked and talked my ass off gathering signatures to keep them out of our neighborhood...the 'hoods that got them, at a cost of several million dollars, have had them removed due to complaints from everyone from the PD, the FD, to everyday users of the streets.

I just use the cruise-control, not wanting to make any new cop friends...

Sounds a lot like the transplants in Cary, NC...One resident had a Cary city worker fired after she observed the man driving a city truck toss a cigarette butt out the window. They're called "Damned Yankees" here because even the Northerners don't want them back...

“Yes, but is this good for Jews?"

Damn.

Which 'rule' was broken here? Smoking in a city rig, or littering?

Harsh town.

Cary = Yuppieville? My daughter plans on moving there, and if she does we'll be in tow. Any decent 55 and older spots around that area?

It's always, always ugly when "concerned citizens" want to play cop.

They call it C.A.R.Y. (Containment Area for Re-located Yankees)...Personally, I avoid the place like the plague. Difficult to travel with tiny streets, a 24 hour traffic jam....and A LOT of Mrs. Kravitz's. Growing areas such as Apex, Garner, and areas just north of Raleigh are the best in my opinion.

Cary is nice, don't get me wrong...good neighborhood eatries, the like...Downtown Raleigh is great for the older crowd (Moore Square Park). Irish pubs, new museums, hockey at RBC...Hockey players are keeping homes here, despite trades and retirement.

Citizen snitch at your service .... what nonsense.

Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say 'what should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, plough, sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth?

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”

Let me tell you a little about Dublin, since I live a few miles from there. It's one of the more snobbish suburbs around Columbus. It's the one that the lesser suburbs try to be, mine included. You would be hard pressed to find an area more infested with shallow assholes. Lots of BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus and assorted status symbols. Remember the kid with the rich parents in high school who thought his shit didn't stink...? That's Dublin. This bit with the wannabe brown-shirts with radar guns doesn't surprise me.

True enough, but I hate traffic "calming" devices more than I fear some biddie with a radar-gun.

Seventh Day Adventists to the rescue -

Arden Seventh-day Adventist Church is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, between Hendersonville and Asheville. Located just west of Highway 25, at 35 Airport Road, we are easily accessible from I-26 and Asheville Regional Airport. By clicking on the map, below, you can view a more detailed map and/or driving directions.
