Only the nouveau riche and wannabe nouveau riche drive flashy cars and live in a flamboyent and obviously wealthy lifestyle.

Old money knows the sanctuary of remaining anonymous.

In 1966, the German sociologist Helmut Schoeck wrote a classic book, Envy: A Theory of Social Behavior. He argued that envy is the root cause of socialism and other forms of compulsory wealth redistribution.

If this were true, then all socialistic nations would be a total failure. Problem: Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark are all socialistic nations, and they all are doing better in every measurable way than we are. They have a better standard of living, better health care, better education, more transparent and less corrupt governments, more press freedom, lower infant mortality, more advanced technology etc. If it's good they have more of it, if it's bad they have less of it than we do. This is not to say that are not examples of badly implemented and even toxic socialism, because there are, but when socialism is done right it appears to produce superior results to our system.

Therefore, I must conclude this article is a bunch of hokum perpetrated by those who benefit from the current status quo in this nation. Another fine example of think-tank propaganda from the tools of the "we got ours, screw you" brigades who own this nation.

Capitalism is NOT an economic system, it's a RELIGION for ASSHOLES!

That must have been why the old Soviet Union, East Germany, Cuba and other peoples paradises were and are so wonderful. As for Scandinavia they are starting to see problems now that they too have a huge underclass as we do dragging down everyone else. Too bad losers like you cannot see that lack of effort is the usual cause of failure in open societies. No one is going to make you do what has to be done to be fairly well off. It is so easy to blame faceless others for a lack of effort on your own part. Get off the bong and exert yourself.

Envy is the root cause???

Hardly. Since recorded history the major social problem has always been, a small minority having most of the wealth generated by the mass majority having nothing.

Oh man, where do I start....

First of all, I don't drink or do any drugs of any kind whatsover. Furthermore, I support myself entirely with my own business that I built from scratch by my own efforts. Calling me a "loser" does nothing except to make YOU look like a fool, a role you play with aplomb. The fact is that I do, in fact, do what it takes to be fairly well off, and I am, in fact fairly well off. This does not mean that I adhere to or promote any particular system of economics or government blindly. See, I come from an engineering background, and have learned to be agnostic towards everything except RESULTS.

So, what are the RESULTS I see from this glorious system we have here in the US? I see corruption, I see dysfunction, I see poverty and neglect, I see a crumbling infrastructure, a nation that has shipped its manufacturing capacity overseas and is mired in an endless state of permawar against a concept we've named "terrorism". I see a "free press" that is nothing more than lackeys to corporate elites, a vanishing middle class, people going without things like health care, a Congress composed of shameless prostitutes for corporate elites, and I see legions of mindless shills like yourself who endlessly prattle on with their think-tank provided slurs, slanders, insults and strawman arguments all designed to preserve the status quo.

And what are the RESULTS I see in Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway? Well, according to transparency international they just happen to have some of the LEAST corrupt governments on the planet, ranking first (in a three way tie), fourth, sixth and eighth respectively. The US? Ranks at #20. Woot! We're at the top of the second quintile! Wave that flag! And try to not notice it was made in China...

So, just go ahead and prattle on there Sparky, you're doing a wonderful job of making my point for me. Go ahead and rattle the bones of dead empires like some kind of mojo jojo totems for the rubes, that does a great job of distracting the easily fooled. Meanwhile, I'll continue making my points for the thoughtful people in the audience who are willing to actually listen to arguments more sophisticated than "Socialism BAD! Capitalism GOOD! OOOGA! BOOGA! Me have BIG CLUB! Me BIG MAN! Listen to ME!"

Capitalism is NOT an economic system, it's a RELIGION for ASSHOLES!

I would correct that to..."except make you a fool".

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men." -- Samuel Adams (1722-1803)‡
