GREENHILLS - University of Cincinnati Associate Athletic Director Bruce Ivory, 53, resigned today following his early morning arrest on a charge of driving under the influence on Winton Road.

Ivory offered his resignation this morning, and UC Director of Athletics Bob Goin accepted it.

"Bruce Ivory is a respected, loyal employee who has risen under my administration to a very influential position as associate athletic director for Academics and Compliance,'' Goin said in a prepared statement. "That influence relates to emphasis on student-athletes academic discipline and athletic compliance-staying within the rules. I am saddened by the unfortunate turn of events which has led to Bruce's resignation.''

Ivory is the third member of the UC athletic department who has been arrested for driving under the influence in the past year. Head basketball coach Bob Huggins was arrested in June in Fairfax, and assistant basketball coach Keith LeGree was arrested in March in Cincinnati.

Ivory, of Forest Park, was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence after he was stopped at 12:18 a.m. on Winton Road, just south of Sharon Road, Greenhills Police Chief Tom Doyle said this morning. An officer had observed Ivory's northbound vehicle "weaving," he said.

The officer administered field sobriety tests before citing Ivory. Doyle said Ivory refused to take a Breathalyzer test to measure the amount of alcohol in his system.

Ivory was cooperative with the officer who stopped him, Doyle said. Ivory was released after someone came to police headquarters to pick him up.

Ivory's duties include overseeing the program which monitors the classroom progress of over 400 student-athletes.

Ivory, a 1975 graduate of Northwestern University, joined the UC staff as an assistant football coach in 1984, and became assistant athletic director of academic services in 1995 after serving as interim director for a year. He was promoted to associate athletic director in 2002.
