http://FOXNews.com Three Killed in Connecticut Home Invasion, Suspects Arrested Monday , July 23, 2007 CHESHIRE, Conn. — Three people were killed after thieves broke into their home, held them hostage for several hours and ultimately set the house ablaze before being nabbed by police while trying to flee the scene. Authorities surrounded the home after a woman was taken by one of the suspects to a bank and somehow alerted an employee that her family was being held hostage, The Hartford Courant reported on its Web site. Connecticut State Police said in a statement issued Monday that officers went to the residence after bank officials notified them of a "suspicious withdrawal." A man inside the house was able to escape with severe injuries and provide authorities with some information, state police said in the statement. The man is currently hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Two suspects tried to escape after apparently setting the home on fire, but were quickly arrested at gunpoint when the car they were driving crashed into two police cruisers, according to state authorities. The Cheshire Fire Department responded to the scene, extinguished the fire and discovered three bodies inside the house, state police said. Neighbors said the home belonged to the Petit family — William Petit Jr. and his wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and their two daughters. Petit, 50, is the medical director of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, and his wife of 22 years worked at the Cheshire Academy, a boarding school. Staff at Cheshire Academy were trying to confirm the news Monday afternoon, said spokeswoman Colleen Reilly. "Everyone here is devastated. So we are still in shock," Reilly said. "It's just a very difficult day here. We are just finding about it now," said Philip Moore, director of communications for the school. Hawke-Petit, 48, worked at the boarding and day school as co-director of its health center, taking care of students and faculty there, Moore said. "She was very good at educating kids about good health, not just taking care of them when they are not feeling well," Moore said. Police said there was one male survivor, and two of those who died were female. Additional information on the third victim was not available, and it wasn't known whether arson was the cause of death or whether the victims were killed before the fire was set. The Rev. Ronald A. Rising, a neighbor, said he has known the family for more than 10 years. "They're just a lovely family," he said. "It's just awful to think it would happen to a family like that in this community. You don't think about those things happening." The upper-middle class neighborhood includes colonial homes with well-kept lawns. Cheshire, a suburb with a population of more than 29,000, is just east of Waterbury and about 15 miles north of New Haven. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Right. If a wealthy customer shows up at a drive through or an inside teller and makes a large cash withdrawal while a nervous looking, out of place "eekwal" of any flavor hovers at her shoulder, that's a bust. I'm betting that it was a sweaty, crack head darkie who is so stupid that he didn't realize that proofreading the withdrawal slip to make sure the woman didn't attempt to signal her plight was a dead giveaway. Any teller would've known immediately that something was wrong if the perp read the slip, and I believe that a Mex would be smarter than that. He'd rely on her fear for her family's safety, but a stupid "eekwal" would read the slip just to show how savvy he be. Reminds me of a column in one of the gun magazines called DUMB CROOK OF THE MONTH that featured a perp from right here in DE. That happened with the guys who delivered wall to wall carpet on one of my jobs, but my fellow electricians were the ones who stole the copper and aluminum cable deliveries that weren't secured overnight. It really irritated me when two of my guys stole 2 grand of copper and sold it for scrap for 80 bux.

Here in DE we have our share of machines disappearing from dealerships and constructions sites, too. I mean big Komatsu cranes and D9 Cats being driven onto low boys and hauled away in the middle of the night. And, somehow they find their way onto ships for export. I guess there are people in the ports who can be persuaded not to examine bills of lading too closely. I wonder if that expedites the import/export of drugs and containers of laborers, too?

My aunt lived in Cheshire. It's not really anywhere near New Haven. It's just off 84, near Waterbury. I was pretty sure these were not minority criminals; Cheshire is a pretty elite, country-road kinda place that is well off the beaten track.

The names of two suspects are Joshua Komisarjevky, 26, and Steven Hayes, 44. looking at the name of the first, I would bet he was Caucasian, and the other could be too. They each have rap sheets with more than 20 prior burglaries, and both were out of prison on parole. Komisarjevsky in 2002 was sentenced to three years in prison and six years of special parole by a Bristol judge after pleading guilty to 11 counts of second- degree burglary. Authorities involved in the case said he would wear military night vision goggles and break into homes to steal electronic items while his victims slept. The judge, James Bentivegna, called Komisarjevsky a "cold, calculating predator." The prosecutor in the case, Ronald Dearstyne, said at the time that Komisarjevsky began robbing homes when he was 14 in Cheshire. Dearstyne told the judge that Komisarjevsky would carry a military backpack, equipped with items including a knife, to rip through window screens. Komisarjevsky had told police he burglarized homes to pay for a drug habit. But the prosecutor and judge said his actions were more calculating than those of a junkie needing cash for a fix. At his sentencing, Komisarjevsky apologized to his victims. Komisarjevsky's home on North Brooksvale Road is about two miles from the Petit's home." Well, the media goes to ridiculous lengths to make it difficult to get a true picture of just who is committing most of the violent crimes. Here in DE they tell us to "be on the lookout" for crims and then they don't give any description! A couple of years ago a really nasty equal had committed multiple murders of potential witnesses, escaped from prison and carjacked a vehicle and was on the loose and that wasn't mentioned until half way through the news story! The headline should have read "PSYCHO KILLER ON THE LOOSE!" with a half page photo of him!

Same here. The length the MSM goes to protect minority criminals from public view leaves me thinking most crimes where descriptions aren't initially offered are the work of OTHERS. It's not hard to jump to a premature conclusion whan their gameplan is obvious and has been for years.
