Bush hits 25% approval

George W Bush's approval ratings just hit 25% in the latest American Research Group poll.

It's not just his practically complete disapproval by Democrats that hurts Bush. The disapproval by Independents and Republicans is growing. The ranks will continue to punish Bush as scandals grow and the public is informed of Bush's crimes. If you don't think there is room for growth in Bush's disapproval ratings, remember: we are in a country where very recently, 41% of the public were convinced, just last month, that "Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq was directly involved in planning, financing, or carrying out the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001")

That being said, take a look at these recent approval/disapproval numbers after the jump, they are devastating.

According to the survey from American Research Group:

among Republicans (30% of adults registered to vote in the survey), 68% approve of the way Bush is handling his job and 26% disapprove. Among Democrats (37% of adults registered to vote in the survey), 1% approve and 97% disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job. Among independents (33% of adults registered to vote in the survey), 18% approve and 79% disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job as president.

You read that correctly. 97% of Democrats disapprove of Bush. (And yet our representatives aren't moving to impeach. Let's wait till those contempt citations pile up, eh?)

But the fact that 79% of independents disapprove, and only 26% of Republicans disapprove of Bush, means things will get worse for him.

Worse, you ask? This is a shocking lack of support for Bush and Cheney. True. But if 97% of Democrats disapprove, certainly as the investigations and the resistance of Bush to any oversight continues, the level of independent support will continue to crater. The level of Republican support may have bottomed out. But I wonder if some political and Constitutional reality will peel off some more Republicans who just want a change. I have a feeling we'll see Bush drop below 22% in the coming months.

The worst President every will surely have the lowest approval ratings ever. Today is a nice milestone on yet another Bush path to infamy.
