If Ron Paul was a threat to the front runners - like an election swaying threat - I think a 'lone nut gunman' would step out of the crowd and shoot him.

You may be right, but might that backfire? If people are mad now -- might an assassination drive the situation into chaos? That would be a really desperate move.

I agree...that would be an incredibly dangerous move that could result in this country being burnt to the ground. Better to hold off until a better time, than to kill the golden goose here and now.

Killing Ron Paul, even making it look "accidental", would be way too obvious to way too many people. That would be laying the cards on the table and exposing their whole hand. Dumb, DUMB, move.

It worked 4 times in our recent history: JFK, MLK, RFK and the assassination attempt on Gov. George Wallace in 1972.

All done by "lone nut gunmen" 2 done by long distance sniper fire and 2 of the hits done with a hand gun up close.

Also of note is the attempted assasination of Ronald Reagan by a lone nut gunman John Hinckley, Jr - Vice president George H.W. Bush, father of the current president, George Bush, Jr., assumed the duties of the presidency briefly after the shooting and nearly became president as Reagan almost died from the shooting. A bullet missed his aorta by less than an inch. The Bush and Hinckley families go back to the oil-wildcatting days of the 1960s in Texas. (Ironically, they go back even farther in a genealogical sense, since the have a common ancestor in Samuel Hinckley, who lived in the late 1600s.)

Good point. I guess sometimes politics is a blood sport.
