My Dad's new wife is about to get her CHP and was recommended the above pistol by the Holly Lake PD. If anyone has any advice on this double-action .380 I'd love to hear it.

Personally, I'd recommend the Taurus SW9F 9mm, made by S&W. I have two although they require a shoulder holster and are 100% reliable with ANY ammo and both are pre-ban with 17 round clips.

i'D ALSO RECOMMEND THE SMALLER tAURUS .38 Special hammerless 5 shot with a nice Pachmeyer grip.

Any recommendations. This is a 60 year old woman.

That's my daily carry, a no thought gun - no hammer to catch on no safety other than a trigger you really have to pull on to make it pop.

Any .45ACP that fits her hand would be my first choice - check out the S&W AirLite model if she wants a wheel-gun.

If she's really gonna carry, S&W has some nice hammerless models in .357, which she can practice with the .38 rounds, and then load up with some +P ammo when going out.

I highly approve of your hi-cap approach to doing business.

I'd recommend a lightweight, concealed- hammer, 5-shot revolver in 38spl.

I'd avoid automatics (especially double action), large or heavy weapons (won't carry), too powerful rounds (frightening), blued steel (rust).

A quick search for titanium handguns yielded this. I'm sure there's others.

I personally don't care for wheelguns myself, but for someone starting out who isn't really familiar with firearms, revolvers are the easiest, most reliable and safest.

So you're not gonna help me tow away that howitzer in front of VFW? I was planning on cleaning it up and turning it into worlds biggest popcorn popper.

Suppose this means I can write you off for Giant Stick of Butter Heist in Wisconsin, too?

This is a 60 year old woman.

Let's get off this 60 shiite - cripes.

60 today, is like 70 or 80 not that many years ago.

To my 60'ish self, this is a non-starter in what she should pack.

One further idea is a nice .22LR for practice, plinking, and just fun shooting...plus, it's lots cheaper per round.

I hope that she has a blast.

i agree. i have a couple of semi-autos including a Bersa 380 and a glock, but i prefer my S&W .357 hammerless revolver which of course shoots 38 spls. no muss. no fuss. i also have an airlite, but that's not easy to shoot especially for a woman who might have weak hands and fingers. p.s. the Bersa is quite a bit cheaper than the S&Ws though

Actually I was more focused on the woman part. I don't think I've ever encountered a woman mechanically adept enough or interested in doing the maintenance that a carry auto requires to keep it reliable. Not saying there's none out there though.

Bersa is a no-problem gun, we sell quite a few of them to CHP holders. My choice above that would be a Walther PPK with Glazer Safety Slugs (give .380 the stopping power of a .357 mag). You can buy a used Walther for just a couple hundred more than the Bersa...

My personal carry gun is a Colt Double Eagle (compact) in .45. Plenty heavy, but I love that "flying ashtray" round and I don't have to worry about going "cocked and locked" with a standard 1911. Really the best compromise I've found on single vs. double action pistols.

I only carry guns that don't need cleaning. Not that I'm a woman, I'm just lazy.

Try the dishwasher with your stainless or nickel K frame Smith. Some cops I used to work with said it works... not sure if they're still around though...LOL.
