My new web site is online. If anyone's interested is stuff from Ecuador, there are some nice things down here and we'll ship it to you. We'll be expanding our inventory in the near future so what we have is a pretty good start, thanks in part to a wood carver/artisan here who's let us feature his inventory. We can do alpaca clothing, Panama hats (All Panama hats come from Ecuador as they are named for where us Euro-gringos discovered them). The wool jackets are very nice -- heavy and warm, as are the wraps. The lobster carving is especially cool. Just about everything would be a very nice gift item.

Anyway wish us luck and any questions, comments on improvements or things on our site are quite welcome! There is a lot more here than what we show so we might be able to get something strange if you ask, like smoking pipes, jewelry made from watermelon seeds, decorative swords made from sword fish snouts and things like that.

You aren't part redneck are you?

Seriously, I have bookmarked this, and wish you much luck in your enterprise, and peace.

hehehe, it wasn't my idea.

But those things really are decorative. They paint them up and put lots of artwork into the hilts and they are 2 or 3 feet long. Hardly strong enough to open letters, but some people like them.

Seriously, I have bookmarked this, and wish you much luck in your enterprise, and peace.

Thanks much.

I make a 600 to 1000 percent markup on items bought here in the US--it's more common than you'd think.

That being said, it's not surprising that things cost more in America than they do in a place where the average wage is what, $4 a day?

I wish it were that much! But you obviously haven't been here in quite a while, if ever. The prices shown are not much markup at all. The sale prices shown won't get us by in the long run (unless we can find more direct suppliers) The truely interested can compare it with stuff on ebay and see.

There certainly are cheesey souvenirs to be had here, as anywhere else, but of course we avoid those. Handcrafts made by indians here as well as the alpaca materials are not in that class.

Of course the buyer pays shipping. Buyers always pay all incidental costs. Have you never run a business? For someone who has lots of opinions about economic matters you seem a bit shortsighted.

But thanks for commenting, o' perfect one.

I think so.

I also know where to buy the items you reference and how much to pay. You need to get farther into the back country and not depend of the bigger city wholesalers.

Good luck.

If true, then you should know that customers always pay incidental costs, like shipping. Always. So (no) thank you for the intentionally disparaging comments, sir.

Can you get these guys to carve things at your direction?

One thing you could do is produce carved Stratocaster bodies. There is a guy around here who makes a living doing that. He can sell all he can make, but he does it as a sideline and doesn't make that many.

You can make the blanks yourself or order them from Stewart Macdonald. There seems to be a market for this sort of thing.

The good thing about guitar stuff is there are lots of good ways to advertise it in a very focused manner, e.g., the NAM shot, the guitar mags, etc.

He told me he could, so I'll inquire about the Stratocaster bodies. I trust a light but hard wood is preferable. Does "body" include the neck?

Can items be special ordered, Neil.....what I'm thinking is like the Sea Horse Set BUT not painted. Just the bare wood? For one thing, my bathroom is done in wood and these could be hung in there as a nice decorative touch. OR, I would prefer to paint to my own color scheme?

Would this hold true on some of the other items? I find the carved crabs interesting--and would think just plain unpainted or tinted ones would be most attractive.

I love the alpaca and wool things. I had a girlfriend in Montana whose father assisted missionaries in Peru each summer. He'd fly materials in that their church provided for the people. While he was there one year, he had an alpaca jacket made for my girlfriend. Pam always said it was so warm, and not so overly heavy, bulky or confining that she couldn't do her chores and stuff in it.

He also brought her home a wall hanging done with colored fibers from alpacas--I believe they used native dyes. It was beautiful--she hung in on the staircase landing wall.

You really need to get a life. Before inserting foot in mouth, perhaps you should shut mouth, sit back, and engage brain in slow enough gear before making some statements or jumping to conclusions or making assumptions which are not based in fact.

No, just the body. There is already a whole industry building necks. Google Stratocaster neck and you can buy them by the ton.

Look at Stew Mac. There are a lot of woods that will work. You need to call an expert to find out. The use a lot of swamp ash here, but there are others that work as well or better. Zeta Violin uses other exotic tone woods. Lots of guys build custon solid bodies and I would just find a few on the web and ask them what they would like to see. You might have a line on a wood that is hard for them go get.

You can just build a strat if you want. You can order everything you need off the web. They are designed for mass production. No tight tolerances anywhere. The neck bolts on and is adjusted with shims. The only thing you can't buy is a neck with a fender decal on it.

Seriously, you need to get some help for your self esteem problems.

Your constant crowing about how great you are and your constant efforts to tear down normal people who are doing things that interest others just highlights your childish jealousy, your insecurity and, quite frankly, you mental illness. In other words, it doesn't make you look good.

Most nine year olds understand this - you need to get some professional help so that you too can understand this.

Everyone here can see you taking the Fahey/TLBSHOW road to mental health - if it fails miserably for you the first time, and if it makes you a laughing stock out of you the first time, then try doing it again and again and again - putting a greater effort into each attempt.

If people took you seriously, do you think you would be getting the constant digs that you get? How many others get kicked as often as you do? I'll answer that: None.

That should tell you something.

Yes, we should be able to get sea horses in just bare wood.

Would this hold true on some of the other items? I find the carved crabs interesting--and would think just plain unpainted or tinted ones would be most attractive.

Yes, we should be able to get crabs without paint as well, and at less price, of course. We'll ask about these.

On my first trip here I bought a bunch of the wool jackets back as gifts and pretty much everyone reported getting compliments on them. Those are wool, not alpaca. But they are a thick weave, come in all kinds of colorful designs and are very warm. Can't call them sweaters though since they are much more durable than normal sweaters. They are for general outdoor use.

He also brought her home a wall hanging done with colored fibers from alpacas--I believe they used native dyes. It was beautiful--she hung in on the staircase landing wall.

There are plenty of alpaca fur wall hangings, some quite large, but I've not seen any that were dyed. Natural colors are white and dark brown, and I've seen hangings that use both colors to create depictions of people unicorns, landscapes and that sort of thing. The one we have is straight brown and is on the smaller side. I've seen nice artistic ones that are about 4' x 6' or thereabouts.

he means that he objects to the fact that we are familiar with, like & respect Pinguinite. Pinguinite is more equal than others is what he's saying in 1984 lingo. he feels it is illegitimate and wants to say so without saying it directly.

in other words, what others have said, that he is a troll here to make us look stupid, confuse us, etc. is correct.

a zionist-type shill messing with the goy. that is why he won't spell out what he means to us. because we're inferior in his mind and he enjoys the air of contempt towards us.

I think Red has it. JCHarris is upset because people respect Penguinite and they think JCHarris is a dumbass jerk.

What JCHarris doesn't understand is that Penguinite earns his respect through his actions. And it's this obvious lack of understanding that prompted me to tell JCH to seek professional help.

JCH is pouting because he feels he should be able to act like a prick and still be liked and respected. JCH feels he is "not equal" because when he acts like a prick, people treat him like a prick.

Hence the whine: "Some animals are more equal than others".

And another thing. Penguinite has done a tremendous amount for this site. Without him, the place wouldn't exist. He doesn't bother people here and he doesn't ask for a lot in return.

If he wants to talk about his new project, why the hell should you care prick? The other people like it. Just read the thread above. Is anyone else complaining?

If you don't like the thread, don't read the thread.

But it isn't that is it. You are angry because Penguinite is getting the spotlight with his thread - and drawing attention away from your insecure, childish self. That is the real problem isn't it. So you throw a fit and attack. And everyone can see what is going on.

Is it any wonder that everyone thinks you are a disfunctional nut?
