My new web site is online. If anyone's interested is stuff from Ecuador, there are some nice things down here and we'll ship it to you. We'll be expanding our inventory in the near future so what we have is a pretty good start, thanks in part to a wood carver/artisan here who's let us feature his inventory. We can do alpaca clothing, Panama hats (All Panama hats come from Ecuador as they are named for where us Euro-gringos discovered them). The wool jackets are very nice -- heavy and warm, as are the wraps. The lobster carving is especially cool. Just about everything would be a very nice gift item.

Anyway wish us luck and any questions, comments on improvements or things on our site are quite welcome! There is a lot more here than what we show so we might be able to get something strange if you ask, like smoking pipes, jewelry made from watermelon seeds, decorative swords made from sword fish snouts and things like that.

Can you get these guys to carve things at your direction?

One thing you could do is produce carved Stratocaster bodies. There is a guy around here who makes a living doing that. He can sell all he can make, but he does it as a sideline and doesn't make that many.

You can make the blanks yourself or order them from Stewart Macdonald. There seems to be a market for this sort of thing.

The good thing about guitar stuff is there are lots of good ways to advertise it in a very focused manner, e.g., the NAM shot, the guitar mags, etc.

He told me he could, so I'll inquire about the Stratocaster bodies. I trust a light but hard wood is preferable. Does "body" include the neck?

No, just the body. There is already a whole industry building necks. Google Stratocaster neck and you can buy them by the ton.

Look at Stew Mac. There are a lot of woods that will work. You need to call an expert to find out. The use a lot of swamp ash here, but there are others that work as well or better. Zeta Violin uses other exotic tone woods. Lots of guys build custon solid bodies and I would just find a few on the web and ask them what they would like to see. You might have a line on a wood that is hard for them go get.

You can just build a strat if you want. You can order everything you need off the web. They are designed for mass production. No tight tolerances anywhere. The neck bolts on and is adjusted with shims. The only thing you can't buy is a neck with a fender decal on it.

Okay, in a few minutes searching I've not found any woods listed that are generally available here, but I don't know much about this business so I think I would need to talk to the right people. I do know teak is used for acoustic instruments and there's a source of that here. Very interesting possibilities. Thanks.

I'm certain the bodies can be made here. Just a question of whether the wood is acceptable.
