I posted this to lodwick on another thread
but it belongs to this thread

my sweet love, please do not allow yourself to get discouraged
I know nothing about the straw poll
who participates in it, etc
where it is located (perhaps Romney bussed in his supporters)

we knew from the beginning, this was not going to be an easy win (the Presidency for Ron Paul)
LOL
all we thought was we could win
and some of us (me) knew we would win

please try to take heart
Ron Paul may have only gotten 10 per cent of the vote in the straw poll
and don't forget Romney spent millions on this straw poll, plus all out effort

Romney had to win it to prove to the big money men behind the GOP that he should continue as their choice

Ron Paul didn't have to win it
those of us committed to putting Ron Paul in the White House don't change our mind
because of his showing in the Iowa straw poll
Darling, we are building momentum
we are still at the start
there will be an avalanche for Ron Paul at the end
because his campaign will snowball
Love, Palo

interesting

so does that mean the Romney campaign bought ballots in bulk
but not everyone they thought would use it, actually showed up?

great post by Lizza76
on another thread just now

The thing here to remember on this evening is that the MESSAGE was heard... loud and proud it was heard...
Ron Paul supporters were all over Fox news...
they couldn't help it it was in their face!
And if anyone who watched Justin TV as I did will note, the support was there and it was great....
more people took notice today than they did yesterday!
That was the entire point of him being there!!!!
They did an amazing job...
they didn't buy votes, and still had more supporters there and HAPPY with the end results
than Romney whose supporters didn't look or sound happy after all was said and done!

So if half the tickets Romney bought weren't used
then it means half the people were not willing to vote for him,
even given a free ticket, plus free transportation provided for them
this is not enthusiastic support for him

Plus free food, free entertainment, the opportunity to meet Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter -- as well as the candidates -- activities for the children, get some face time on national TV ... the list goes on.

Perhaps Romney (or whoever) purchased the tickets so supporters of other candidates could not.

Jeff of justin.tv spoke to a few Romney people, they were curious about the camera on his head. They even interviewed him.

So the variables on this little experiment are all over the place. Some were paid for and bussed in, others were not, and there was more than one candidate who had extra, unused voting cards?

Bingo!

Altho I am guessing Romney is the one who could not get half the people he bought voting cards for
to come and vote for him
He is the one with money galore
(and spent millions on this event)
I am guessing that all the vote-cards for Romney were paid for by the Romney campaign

my hunch is Brownbeck's supporters got the churches to buy voting cards
and the churches bussed in their congregations
probably most of their voting cards were used...

It is no mistake that Iowa is the first contest in the country that sets up the front runners for the following primaries. It is the most subject to easy manipulation by elites.

Does anyone know a real live Romney supporter? I don't. And my aquaintences are more apt to be GOP members and or self described "conservatives" and I also live in Massachusetts! He is a creature of the Beltway 100 percent.

I remember when Howard Dean was running at 30 percent in a field of 8 other Dems- with no one even near him- a month before Iowa back in 2003. John Kerry- literally 30 days before had 2 percent support in Iowa polls. Then- an infusion of money from Beltway powerhouse Ted Kennedy and plane loads of "volunteers" on the Kennedy payroll fanned out all over Iowa to arm twist and cajole local party leaders and more than likely pass out the bags of money. At the same time an MSM campaign against Dean started up- with daily stories in the New York Times rehashed on the Networks and picked up in local papers that were going back ten years or more to talk about Vermont "scandals" long since dead involving Dean. And lo and hold- John Kerry came out the winner in Iowa- a guy whose name was barely known only 30 days earlier in that state and who had ZERO grass roots support. It was a setup.

And one I predicted on Free Republic when all the dopes there thought Dean was going to win. I knew DC would never let a wild card like Dean get near the nomination. Now- Dean has long since been neutered and marginalized by being made party chair (which is a sop position as the parties structures have little real power any longer.)
