I find it odd that critics of Israel, myself included, are subjected to a constant barrage of charges of anti-Semitism, considering the amounmt of respect I have for some persons of the Jewish faith. Just for fun, I thought I'd make a list of Jews I admire, and just to trot out a Trotskyite canard will attack anyone accusing me of pandering. Just kidding about that last bit, here we go: Geddy Lee

Dr. Walt's wife is 1/2 Jewish, a fact which the faux anti-semite accusers conveniently forget. Mearsheimer in fact travelled to Israel at least 1/2 dozen times or more previously - if Mearsheimer were a rabid Jew-hater, he would have avoided visiting a Jewish state at all costs one would think. Mearsheimer and Walt were attacked smear-style by Wash Post's Dana Millbank (08/29/06 "Pronouncing Blame on the Israel Lobby")in the following paragraph - check out the last line - Millbank is obviously insinuating that Drs. M& W are Naziis. If Millbank cared to do some investigative reporting instead delivering cheap shots he would have learned that Walt's wife is Russian-Rumanian Jewish on her father's side and she was raised in NYC in a loosely Jewish cultural setting. Her maternal grandfather helped German Jews escape the Naziis. Also in an talk at UC Berkeley in October/07 Mearsheimer said because he and Walt are of the realist school, before they started their research on the Israel Lobby they believed ( like a few on this board) that oil industry and the Miliary Industry Complex were the main players in influencing our ME foreign policy but in the course of their research they changed their position because the evidence was so over whelming that the Israel Lobby was the elephant in the room as it were. So it's not like the 2 of them had any pre-conceived ( as Millbank infers - Arayan 'tudes) biases about the power of the Israel Lobby and it being the essential driving force of the Iraq invasion - in fact, M&W started out with a mindset that was quite opposite. Here's Millbank's cheap shot. "The answer is the political influence of the Israel lobby," Walt said. He also hypothesized that if not for the Israel lobby, the Iraq war "would have been much less likely." This line of argument could be considered a precarious one for two blue-eyed men with Germanic surnames..."
