"I am further of opinion that it would be better for us to have [no laws] at all than to have them in so prodigious numbers as we have." Michel Eyquem, seigneur de Montaigne. (15331592)
Orwell seemed to like it when he fought for them in the Spanish Civil war. Ironic enough the two major sides and their "advisors", despite being backed by political opposites (Soviet Russia vs Nazi Germany), both worked hand in hand to crush the anti-statist anarchist movement ASAP.

This is why RP's message resonates with so many in our country.
Get out of our lives, and leave us alone - is all that we ask.
I am currently engaged in a full time job search. As such, I don't have time or patience to deal with childish antics by those of you who ARE currently employed.
Can't she make money hanging out on the internet all day?
I side with Goldi in that it is a tough job trying to maintain civil behavior among discussion members.
BTW - doesn't Christine do a great job!
Running a forum is a tough job, and the more diverse the views you want to have on your forum, the harder it is. You get more fights, mud slinging, and complaints, and when your resolve the complaints, invariable up to 50% of the parties involved are pissed at your decision, and that's if you do it right.
The more views you restrict from the forum, the easier it is. It's up to each owner to decide what they want/how much crap they want to put up with.
Goldi's moderating is very biased; for example, she never did explain why she banned aristeides (because she didn't have a good reason).
It's the emotional factor. It plays a big role in her moderation.
I'm sorry she's lost her job. Certainly a bummer and something that's making her talk about closing down. But it wouldn't be a bad bet that that she has no intention of shutting down LP. Didn't see it posted on this thread but apparently someone complained to LP's ISP about release of personal info. I'm sure that's irritated her some. Something about radio call signs and a federal index site allowing people to cross refererence them to home addrs. (Seems the complainer needs to get off his federal radio roster).
Yes, Christine does a super job of keeping this 4um a place of free speech, tolerating the venting of a variety of extreme views.
One might have to question the I.Q. of anyone that put up with the brazen hostility towards free speech demonstrated at all of the aforementioned forums excepting 4UM.
It's tempting to obstruct speech one finds offensive by imposing bans or threatening them ... it's worse to accept them.

I missed that! LP does attract the most unsavory federales. ;)
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit Map Quest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book.
If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.
Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the map quest and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary.
Please look up your own number.
In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: google (http://www.google.com/) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to B L O C K Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.
Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this.

Several years ago there was too much info available online from certain states about birth records. A complaint was filed and CA pulled back info. In bygone days, it took a court order, several forms and several weeks to get this info. And that was assuming you knew where to start looking. Now you just type someone's name into a search engine hooked to the right databases.
