BTW - doesn't Christine do a great job! I challenge each of you to fight for each other's freedom and not insult fellow citizens. Before Neil left LP to Goldi, it was a great forum. After he left, she allowed back in the very worst trolls and paid shills. Goldi's moderating is very biased; for example, she never did explain why she banned aristeides (because she didn't have a good reason). Yes, Christine does a super job of keeping this 4um a place of free speech, tolerating the venting of a variety of extreme views.

Running a forum is a tough job, and the more diverse the views you want to have on your forum, the harder it is. You get more fights, mud slinging, and complaints, and when your resolve the complaints, invariable up to 50% of the parties involved are pissed at your decision, and that's if you do it right. The more views you restrict from the forum, the easier it is. It's up to each owner to decide what they want/how much crap they want to put up with.

It's the emotional factor. It plays a big role in her moderation. I'm sorry she's lost her job. Certainly a bummer and something that's making her talk about closing down. But it wouldn't be a bad bet that that she has no intention of shutting down LP. Didn't see it posted on this thread but apparently someone complained to LP's ISP about release of personal info. I'm sure that's irritated her some. Something about radio call signs and a federal index site allowing people to cross refererence them to home addrs. (Seems the complainer needs to get off his federal radio roster). Yes, 4um is a nice place to be!

One might have to question the I.Q. of anyone that put up with the brazen hostility towards free speech demonstrated at all of the aforementioned forums excepting 4UM. It's tempting to obstruct speech one finds offensive by imposing bans or threatening them ... it's worse to accept them.

Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit Map Quest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the map quest and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary. Please look up your own number. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: google (http://www.google.com/) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to B L O C K Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours. Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this.

I had done that before. Want something REALLY scary? On that map, click the satellite image. When I did that it pulled up an image in good enough detail to be able to see the stock tanks in our pastures! And I don't know if it's possible to "block" this out. You can scroll the satellite image and see all of your neighbors etc, and keep "following it down the road" to check out everything you want for as long as you've got time to keep looking...

I know what you mean. I was banned from my local newspaper forum for, IMHO - being damned good at presenting my point. I was banned from http://freerepublic.com for, IMHO - being damned good at presenting my point. I’ve only become more talented at doing what they hate and I notice I’m not along in this. My goal is to deal as much misery as possible to sites that ban citizens for merely possessing a view contrary to the official "new speak".

A somewhat subtle part of the communications process is that - as long as someone is complaining about something, they have hope of things improving. It's when they fall silent that you know someone has given up hope. If you want a 'throw-away' phone number that doesn't cost a dime, just out this service http://www.privatephone.com/ . You get your own local(in most cases) phone number that rings into your own voicemail box. You can even establish a number not in your area code, say you wanted to appear to be from Houston versus Toledo. You can call into to retrieve you messages and/or you can be alerted and have the messages sent to your email. (need soundcard to hear messages from email) Don't know how they are doing this for free although to do sell extended features like call forwarded, etc.

Yes that was a link to here. There was a thread here asking if Twenty Twelve could be enticed over. My post there was simply asking if he could be enticed with a link here. I saw it as a courtesy ping. I've linked many web sites and other forums there before including my own, never was a problem. Yukon made a big deal out of that one post though and then I was banned. He is the one who called that post to Goldi's attention and more was made out it than there was. I had said I was taking a break, those posts are still there. I wanted to give Goldi a chance to read my email since she has asked me for time to do so. Instead of dealing with Byteshredder's threats she bans me for a bogus reason, says nothing to Byte and then bans others for supposedly making threats At the time Goldi banned me for posting here I was also posting on 4 other forums all of which I had linked there at one time or another including Funky Frog which I had linked several times. Edit: LibertyPost's Alexus numbers are down 55% in the last three months.
I wouldn't worry about any of it. Just know that some people think of the net as just the net and posters as just screen names. They will never understand that you are a real person until they meet you in "real life". That's something that I have learned recently. Most people are not the same in person as they are on the net. Unfortunately, I am the same on the net and some just don't get it. The net is their playground and I just don't want to play that game. That's why I use the screen name that I use. Because it is me. My real name (a portion thereof) and not some made up pseudonym.
