GOP Sen. Larry Craig tells reporters 'I am not gay'

Q1x00010_9 Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, is scheduled to make a statement on his arrest and subsequent guilty plea to charges that he engaged in disorderly conduct in a bathroom on June 11 at Minneapolis St.Paul International Airport.

Update at 4:38 p.m. ET: Craig just stepped in front of the microphones. He was with his wife

"First let me please apologize to my family, friends and staff and fellow Idahoans for the cloud placed over Idaho," he says. "I did nothing wrong at the Minneapolis airport. I did nothing wrong and regret the decision to plead guilty."

Craig blames the Idaho Statesman, his local paper, for mounting an intensive investigation into reports that the GOP lawmaker was a homosexual who trolled public restrooms for sexual partners. The paper didn't publish anything about Craig's sexual orientation until this morning, after the arrest was reported by Roll Call.

"In June, I overreacted and made a poor decision," he tells reporters. "While I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct at the Minneapolis airport or anywhere else I chose to plead guilty in the hope of making it go away."

Craig says he didn't seek counsel from his family, friends or attorney while deciding how to deal with the arrest. He has asked his attorney to review the matter and advise him on how to proceed.

"I am not gay. I never have been gay," Craig says.

"In June, I overreacted and made a poor decision," he tells reporters. "While I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct at the Minneapolis airport or anywhere else I chose to plead guilty in the hope of making it go away."

But it was in August that he pled guilty.

I've already said too much.

A D.C. GOP operative has told the Boise paper that he had sex with Craig after meeting him in the men's room of the train station in DC. There are about 12 other cases the paper was investigating, although the reporter noted that several of the other men are deceased. Which sounds weird.

I'm one of those people who just automatically pleads guilty if I get charged with anything. After all, if I was really innocent, why would the police arrest me? I really sympathize with ol' Larry.

So... Um... If you go to an airport bathroom, looking for sex with another man, you're not gay.

So I guess if I go to my favorite bookstore, and grab the ass of this chick who looks like my wife, but isn't, that's not fucking around, or sexual harassment.

FINALLY, something goes right in my world. I mean, we have the best leadership in the world, and they all know better than the rest of us, what the definition of IS is.

'I am not gay'

You're right; that's exactly what Roy Cohn said, that he wasn't gay, he just liked to have sex with men.

Several months ago I walked into a men's room in a park. There was one stall, and I could see two pairs of wing-tips in it. Couple faggots.

Whatever they want to do in private is fine with me, but I'm all for the cops arresting these guys for cruising interstate reststops and park bathrooms. Any men's bathroom, for that matter.

The guy he had sex with was just quoted on Olbermann. Evidently they got started in Union Station and then "it got too busy" so they went to another one and had just started when it got too busy again. So they both went home. It's just so RUDE of people to interrupt young love that way.

The why is easy. He's been nearly caught many times, including once last fall when it hit the newspapers and he denied everything, and the last thing he wanted was a trial with testimony and all that stuff. He thought he could keep it quiet.

The GOP leadership is going ballistic. They want him to resign, now, so they don't have another Foley. There are witnesses who had sex with this guy going back to 1967...I imagine that any investigation is going to be REAL bad. I hope he drags it out for months and months.

Fondling is a social norm?

And for it to 'dawn' on anyone for such to be a simple social gesture, such as the waving of a hand to say hello, is more than a stretch. Pardon the pun. I guess for freaks, all things can fit into being socially okay.

You just made me feel bad. I'm a mean, judgmental person. I mean, whenever I go into a men's room, that's what I really want. Someone to cup my testicles lovingly.

This guy is going to end up in a homeless shelter. I really despise hypocrisy. If you're gay, voting against gay rights is pretty repulsive.

I agree with you 1000%.

We're taxpayers and we want our tax supported bathrooms clean and safe and functional.

If gays, heteros, bis, trans - whatever - want to make out, then they should do it privately on their dime.

If they are so inconsiderate to do their sex thingies in public, then they should be arrested.

I'll tell you, these members of the most elite men's club have to violate taboos or being powerful doesn't excite them.

Take Kennedy for instance. Being born with a proverbial platinum spoon meant that he had all the expensive cars, boats, girls, drugs and booze there was from the time he was old enough to get his kicks, and he soon became bored with it.

So, that left only two things for him to do. He could try to amass more wealth than other sons of privilege, or he could wield political power, the more the better.

And, if these senators thought of themselves as humble public servants then that would really suck. So, they pass laws and attempt to exercise ever increasing control of the masses and the world through treaties.

And, to really get their kicks, they go to Bohemian Grove and engage in obscene conduct, perhaps even murdering the boys they rape so they can "one up" the competition. And, what better way to laugh at the silly people who keep them in office than to engage in acts that would shock their constituents? I suspect that some didn't start out as gay men with true homo leanings, but the temptation to break taboos and get away with it (while other insiders including members of the press know) is just too tempting for them.

Just as Robert Hansen lived a secret life as a Russian spy while serving as a high ranking FBI agent, these gay Republicans are so cynical and resentful of the stupid, trusting masses that it takes snuff films and forbidden acts to excite and reward them for holding so much power.

I mean ask yourself this question.

Does Ted Kennedy stay in office because being a dutiful public servant is more rewarding than being filthy rich?

Why did a farmer turned senator from Idaho take unbelievable risks by swapping fellatio with complete strangers in dirty bathrooms?

Because he could.

And he could get away with it.

The close calls and the "badging his way out" of trouble was half of the thrill.

"If only my silly little wife knew! She'd just die! Now, that's what I call fun! More exciting than than climbing K2!"

You know that even though cops swagger with police powers they are also stressed and resentful of the extensive and sometimes intrusive control that the state has over them. (If a cop refuses a polygraph or drug screen he/she may claim the 4th and 5th amendment protections against criminal charges, but he/she can still be fired because they are conditions of employment)

So, they compensate themselves by immunizing each other to speeding and DUI arrests. The idea that they have stepped down and forfeited rights to work for govt really pisses them off, so, cops don't give each other speeding tickets and that makes them feel superior to the public.

IRS agents hate to be told that they are required to file 1040s but I am not. (even if no one but "the secretary" is actually required to file by their administrative regs, it is certainly a reasonable expectation that IRS employees file because, well, just because.)

But, they hate to be told that they forfeit rights and they'll use their power to intimidate, swindle, coerce and/or trick private sector "free and sovereign people" into believing that we are in their govt boat and that we have somehow forfeited rights because they have.

And, the more power the govt types have to protect the more they require in the way of "secret compensation" to feel superior to the unwashed masses.

Unseating a US Senator (who isn't caught with a dead girl or a live boy) is darn near impossible, unless they commit political suicide with their own arrogance.

They have to feign virtue and character in all public perceptions and incumbents take challenges personally, because a senate seat is for life. They resent the fact that stupid, powerless people can rescind their American title of nobility for no reason at all, and they use the IRS (and sabotaged aircraft) to destroy serious challengers or anyone who dares to expose or unseat them.

And, how do the most powerful 100 people (mostly white male millionaires) compensate themselves for having to kiss the ugliest friggin' babies you'd ever want to see, (and voters' asses) especially in a worrisome race against a serious challenger?

Well, they commit unspeakable acts at Bohemian Grove, and as we learned from the exposure of former Sen. Bob Packwood (a touchy, feely guy if there ever was one) they reduce staffers to glorified concubines as a condition of their employment. (Although I'm generally sympathetic to women who are harassed in the workplace, far too many glamorous gals are working in congressional offices as secretaries even though they can't type. If they're comfy being goosed and they weren't hired for their office skills (and, hey, it beats pole dancing) then I have no passion to defend them against Kennedy or any other lecher. Packwood went too far so apparently the women are allowed some dignity, or as much as they can have when not on their knees. I mean, even well paid hookers at conventions get tired of obnoxious, nipple twisting Shriners I suspect)

Now that Bush has openly declared the revolution against the people and the govt has shed the shackles of the constitution, international law, Geneva treaties, etc., and US Senators are more powerful than ever, we can expect them to raise the bar to get their kicks.

We should brace ourselves for the expose video because next year at Bohemian Grove they may have to barbecue a baby to get sexually aroused.

LOL.

Just learned that all 3 of Craigs children are adopted. Which reminded me of whispers about John Roberts before he was confirmed for the USSC.

I'm getting the idea that 'compassionate conservative' requires another type of membeship card.

Whispers about Condi, Meyers, Fredo, Karl, Gannon/Guckert, Hastert, then add Foley and McGreevy, who came out and got out.

Also, Mitt Romney claims he knew nothing about Craigs background, which he finds disgusting, and now wants nothing to do with him. This does not speak well for Romney in the least. For a Presidential Candidate to suggest that he is the candidate for the 'solid family', yet, having failed to do a complete background check on Craig before allowing him to 'help' Mitts campaign, is just stupid. What of Mitt's other staffers?

Wasn't it a senior McCain staffer that got caught attempting to diddle in a bathroom recently? I can't remember who the guy was, but it seems the story was he was PRESSURED by a scary Black man and offered him a private polish.

Not painting them all with a broad brush here, but, there is obviously a preoccupation with sex.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that one. His behavior when he was caught would support that theory too.

When Clinton passed the omnibus crime control act and spread lots of cash around to state, county and municipal police agencies he was adored by grant grubbing cops here in DE.

Bush has been cutting funds from everything and everyone including veterans to pay for Halliburton's featherbedding. So, the senator just didn't have the juice to "badge" his way out of this mess. As a voting bloc cops just don't scare politicians, and Bush put the money where it would buy the most goodwill at election time. (social security & Medicare recipients and Diebold and ES&S voting systems)

The former chair of the House Ways & Means Committee Dan Rostenkowski (the committee that writes the tax laws) used to illegally street park in DC and he had his car guarded by DC metro police. Now he was someone the police respected, especially an agency that exists entirely on federal shekels.

A nosy reporter who asked why the cops were guarding Rostie's car was beaten up and arrested! That was his answer.
