WICHITA, Kan., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The head of an American Indian tribe in Wichita, Kan., was charged Friday with helping illegal immigrants get citizenship fraudulently through his tribe.
Authorities charged 69-year-old Malcolm L. Webber with attempting to defraud the government by allegedly helping illegal immigrants become U.S. citizens by joining the Kaweah Indian Nation, The Wichita Eagle reported.
"Reports are coming in from Social Security offices, driver's license bureaus and law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Michigan, California and other states that foreign nationals are showing up with documents purchased from Mr. Webber," U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren said Friday.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has said Webber's tribe is not a legally recognized tribe and that Webber is not a true American Indian.
If convicted of organizing the immigration scheme, Webber could be sentenced to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the newspaper said.

When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either quit being mistaken or cease to be honest.
I've already said too much.
