I'm no fan of Goldi or many others at LP, but if an ISP can take them down, then that is scary.

Too many Ron Paul posts and Tel Aviv pulled the plug????
I doubt it. From my understanding, Goldi got bent out of shape about people posting so many pro-Paul articles and started threatening to ban people. Of course it's perfectly OK to fill the site with anti-Ron Paul articles. There's many more anti- than ther are pro-.
It had to do with Coppertone, a letter to the FBI and someone's real name being posted. I can't remember. There were a lot of people on the thread, so somebody will.
I recall that Goldi also made reference to receiving a warning from the site host, that they were being watched, and that further transgression of the host terms of service could result in the host shutting down the site.
I wasn't aware of that. LP's been around for a long time with no problems that I am aware of. It must have been a pretty bad transgression.

I stumbled across that thread and threat also but didn't bother to investigate what prompted such an action by the site host.
Perhaps Fred knows the details, eh Fred?
Never swear "allegiance" to anything other than the 'right to change your mind'!
hmmmm..did she say what the supposed transgression was?
I do not recall anything specific about the transgressions. I did not pay too much attention to this at the time but my somewhat vague recollection is that it had generally to do with the ongoing foodfight between certain posters or about Ron Paul. It may have just been in the nature of certain insults.
I read the statements by Goldi you refer to, and I got it from a link here.
basically Goldi said she was in a job-search. Her previous employer eliminated her section she worked in. she said she really had to work now because she was looking for a job. and she didn't have time to properly monitor the site as she once did when she had a job. and said that if monitoring it was too much work she might shut it down.

If the site host determines that the site has violated its Terms of Service (TOS) they can pull the plug and the site is offline. This is what was done to the Clown Posse Snitz (using Snitz code) site by its host which was in the UK at that time.
This does not necessarily prevent the site from moving to a new host with its database history intact.
Golfmann said he was the one on the papers. He told me he was working with Hugh to get it shut down. That was before he took his own site out of public view and banned me.

If that is the case, there a lot of good people there that may migrate to 4um. As usual there are many that most people would not want.
Ain't that the truth. I have no problem with opposing views but people like Yukon, Daconia55, boilerplate, calcon, and others do not debate, they personally attack those who have different views from them. Every post they make is an ad hominem attack. Since they are pro-war though, Goldi lets them get away with it ad nauseum.
Yeah I used to know his last name but have forgotten John something. At the time he owned a cigar shop. He lost that business and moved shortly after putting No Name up. Said he as cheated by his partner. He claimed Master Mind stole CP from him. They did kick him out sort of, that's why he put up No Name. He was still on the paperwork though, the agreement with Hugh since it was Golf who set the site up and worked on all the software. There are those who know a lot more about it than I do since I was not in any loop.

I don't even know how long it's been down. Remember in the past there was computer hardware problems causing a shut-down for a day or so, could be something like that. or if Gold shut it down despite her story for doing it, she acquired (I'd presume bought) a discussion forum & then decided to shut it down. the old FreeRepublic of 1997-2000 was a very excellent forum in terms of communication of important info. many of us remember how that self- destructed. JimRob & wife were facing lawsuits, broke & desperate in late 1990's. and early 2000's they were recovered financially, lawsuits went away (somehow) and they switched to republican only, and then neo-con only. LP & others that splintered from FR saw any variety of means of destruction. I wonder who Goldi really worked for? & others too on LP & at other break-off forums.
one of 4um's advantages is a small number of people who read it. small meaning unimportant in target selection (in information-war). I will say it is a noble thing to run a discussion forum like 4um. because it is so obvious that freedom of speech is under attack in many ways & I would not doubt that Goldi shut it down as 'the company' associates advised her to. same with the others, in 1 means or another they've likely been taken out.
we've done our best to communicate. and there may come a time when we cannot. Someone once compared the old FR to the Liberty Tree's of revolution days. That is when they would post news stories about the war on very large old trees in the forest, treating it like a bulletin board that multiple people would travel up to 100 miles to see & get the news not necessarilly published in the newspapers from the cities controlled by the British.

Yes, Goldi-lox was pretty upset about all the name calling, etc., that was occurring at the same time that the site host got ticked off about the incident with Coppertone.

You have GOT to be kidding me! Coppertone?
These people have too much time on their hands. When they argue about Coppertone, Geez.

I am reasonably certain CP belonged to Mastermind, not Golfmann.
I believe the site host was spelled Huw but pronounced like Hugh. The host was in the UK and with the name Huw, the host was possibly Welsh.
I also believe (but have no proof) that Golfmann was involved in the shutdown of the CP Snitz site. I have seen that denied. It is just my opinion.

I expect those of you who post here to adhere to the rules that are outlined on the tab, FAQ. Further info is on the tab named "Help".
You are adults. Many of you are in jobs or positions of responsiblity. Why then do so many of you act without any responsibility??
If you can't treat me and each other with respect, then the entire intent of this site is a lost cause.
For those of you who do not already know, I was laid off my job at the end of June due to a business downturn in my specific facility. I am currently engaged in a full time job search. As such, I don't have time or patience to deal with childish antics by those of you who ARE currently employed. I will not be taking time from my search to coddle you.
I have today and yesterday been forced to address issues that I don't have time to be dealing with. As a result, I have banned Gatlin and Rhino369. I have had to close other accounts due to their total internet stupidity. I won't mention their names. I have also deleted several threads where one poster attacked another.
For the time being, these kinds of actions will result in immediate and permanent bannings. I'm not spending my time dealing with you when I need to find a job to support myself.
How inconsiderate of you all.
I am so disgusted with these actions that I may not bother with keeping this site up at all if it continues.
So, go ahead. Bash me in this thread - and you'll make the decision for me.
So you can shape up or ship out. Or the boat goes down with all of you.
You've been given fair warning. Now we'll all see what you do with it.
I am now going back to my primary activity: finding a new job. I won't be on this thread further.
Somewhere on that thread Goldi-lox posts a letter she got from the site host or Coppertone. I think Coppertone wrote a letter to the FBI or some other federal agency. It had to do with their ham radio call letters or their real name being posted. Don't quote me on that. Coppertone also sent a copy (?) of the letter to Goldi-lox. Coppertone was threatening to shut down LP. Goldi-lox banned her.

lawsuits went away (somehow)
The Times Corp. obtained a $1M judgment against FR/Jim Rob. The court found, among other things, that FR was a for-profit, limited liability company.
The litigation was ostensibly settled for $10K and FR agreement to cease using Times Corp. articles. I suspect somebody sort of bought a silent partnership or some significant influence on FR.
The court decisions re the Times Corp. litigation are:
Judge Morrow's Tentative Order. Re: whether Free Republic's republication of Plaintiffs' copyrighted articles constitutes fair use. Case: Los Angeles Times v. Free Republic. Court: U.S. District Court, C.D.Cal., Case No. 98-7840 MMM(AJWx). Date: November 9, 1999.
