A 1958 45, with a cardboard sleeve, that I got from my mom. Undamaged, it's worth about $5. This one, which has chewed edges from a cat or dog, is worth nothing.

Too bad it's not unopened and perfect. Then I would have something.

My mom also had the 45 of him in his gold lame suit, but it seems to be lost. (1 image)

1958 - that's pretty old. I'd keep it if I were you.

I'm keeping it, just for fun.

I read an article a few years about places that buy old records. They bought them by the pound. Apparently they melted them down.

Very few old records are worth anything, and they have to be unopened and in perfect condition.

I was surprised to learn this record, in perfect condition but opened, is worth $5.

I found this ancient album under Cyni's back deck, along with a stash of candy.

The Oldest Record I Have

I have a 78 that was inside sleeve of Beach Boys album that was part of huge bundle of junk a neighbor from long ago invited me to assist dismantling. If I remember correctly it's Count Basie Orchestra.

The oldest record I have is a 45 of "Hot Pastrami" by the Dartells circa '61.

I grew up with the guys in the band, two are dead now that I know of...

that California Ramblers album looks like something from the 20's or 30's. Not surprised that Cynicom has a copy.

I had a CD of a Louis Armstrong recording from 1925 and I think it was fantastic.

Back in those days they had many many bands that played in big & medium sized cities all over America - live performances all the time. and a typical band would have 6-12 players in it. there were really a lot of great musicians back in those days. Today the record companies only allow a very few to succeed. and they end up producing garbage.
