In a Thursday morning morning press conference at the White House, the President engaged in a little bit of grade inflation about his academic record.

"You need to talk to economists," he answered when asked if there was a risk of recession in the US economy. "I think I got a B in Econ 101. I got an A however in keeping taxes low, and being fiscally responsible with the people's money."

President Bush as an undergraduate at Yale did not in fact receive a grade of B in his economics course. Bush received a grade that would correspond with a C-.

A copy of Bush's Yale transcript posted at the humorous website http://GeorgeWBush.org states that the president received grades of 71 and 72 in Economics. The president took the course during successive semesters of his sophomore year, 1965-66.

President Bush, who earned a Bachelor's degree with a major in History at Yale, has long described himself as a 'C student.' He also has a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard.

And I bet he got that only after his dad threatened to shut the place down.

that's just incredible. I guess he forgot it all, if indeed he learned anything to begin with.

I would say the word "earned" is a gross exagerration. he's received plenty in his life, but that doesn't mean he earned it.

earn –verb (used with object) 1. to gain or get in return for one's labor or service: to earn one's living. 2. to merit as compensation, as for service; deserve: to receive more than one has earned. 3. to acquire through merit: to earn a reputation for honesty. 4. to gain as due return or profit: Savings accounts earn interest. 5. to bring about or cause deservedly: His fair dealing earned our confidence. –verb (used without object) 6. to gain income: securities that earn on a quarterly basis.

oops, maybe #6 applies...

Any reporter with the balls to expose Bush for the moron that he is should simply ask him what exactly he studied in economics class. I doubt the head idiot could answer.

He usually boasts about having been a C student. I wonder why he would lie or misremember this time.

And isn't it odd that somebody who got a C minus in Economics would be admitted to the Harvard Business School?

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

Daddy, Uncle, and Grandpa Shrub must have pulled a lot of strings to give their borderline retarded heir apparent all of the right credentials.

A C average ain't gonna' get you into Graduate School at any private university that I know of, including SMU, much less Harvard. Looks like he had a little help. He msut've had help flying for the NAtional Guard as well...like a damned good autopilot. Can you imagine him actually flying a jet? I can't.

He was a C student at Andover Academy, and he got into Yale.

He was a C student at Yale, and went to grad school at Harvard.

He was AWOL during his National Guard duty, which kept him out of Vietnam.

He owned an oil company that never drilled any oil to speak of but still somehow made him millions

After botching Harken Oil and every other venture, he gets handed the Rangers deal.

He was governor and had the Lt. governor draft all the budgets.

Does anyone else notice a pattern in Shrub's charmed life?

I was thinking the same thing, I wish that the reporter had quizzed him about the difference between Keynesian vs supply-side economics just to watch Shrub sputter.
