Border Volunteers Not So Welcomed in Texas By LYNN BREZOSKY, Associated Press Writer HARLINGEN, Texas - The controversial civilian patrol group that helped capture hundreds of illegal immigrants along the Mexico-Arizona border and won praise from California's governor is getting a pre-emptive cold shoulder in Texas. Minuteman Project organizer Chris Simcox warned that if Congress didn't buttress the U.S. Border Patrol with National Guard or other military troops this summer, the patrol would deploy to California in August and Texas in October. But although Minuteman organizers said nearly 1,000 volunteers from around the country were ready, Texas civil rights groups, clergy, newspaper editorial boards and politicians are folding up the welcome mats. "I think it's a problem all of Texas has with having vigilante groups from other parts of the country come to our state to try to tell us how to run our business," said Democratic state Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, an author of a resolution that urged Gov. Rick Perry to oppose Minuteman plans. Eleven senators signed it, and Democratic state Sen. Rodney Ellis wrote Perry that Minutemen "are not welcome in Texas." Perry responded that he can't ban people from legal activity. "He understands and appreciates the frustration that many Texans have with illegal immigration and its impact on national security, but ultimately this is a federal issue," Perry spokeswoman Kathy Walt said. The Minuteman Project drew international attention in April when volunteers showed up in Arizona to prove the border could be secured simply by putting more personnel there. While they didn't apprehend immigrants, Simcox said the group alerted the Border Patrol to suspicious behavior and helped catch 335 immigrants. Yet the Texas border differs from the Arizona border in key ways. Most of the Texas land is privately owned, so Minutemen would need landowners' permission to be there. The border also is overwhelmingly Hispanic and more urban, and Minutemen opponents wonder how the volunteers will distinguish illegal immigrants. Opponents also fear the movement is fomenting racial hatred. "I don't think that there's any doubt that there's a tinge of racism beneath the surface in their attempt to try to stop immigrants from Mexico," Hinojosa said. "Why don't they do that in Canada?"

The Mexicans own Texas and California. The Minutemen would be going into enemy territory. Of course, they will get the "cold shoulder" and perhaps more.
They own Bush too.
They may get a different reception from the landowners along the border.
I don't think the people of Texas agree with these chickenshit politicians. But, we will see...we will see.
The only people in Texas whose opinion matters are those who own property on the border. It is their land that is being trampled and they are the only ones who can invite the Minutemen to help them protect it.
The landowners need a lot of help.
That's my take. Everything I've heard is that the folks who live along the border feel like they are under siege by foreign invaders who destroy their property, kill their livestock, rob their homes and threaten the lives of their families. I'm guessing they will be of a mind to welcome some assistance.
Hispanic? A white guy from the Canary Islands could be a "Hispanic". These people are Mexicans! The vast majority are interlopers who have broken our laws and abused our system every way they could. They're disease caring parasites and mental deficients who should be deported back to the rat hole they made for themselves south of the border.
Yeah! I hope/pray you're right. Texans need to step up to the plate and join the union in defending our borders or else join up with Mexico and screw the sacrifice of those Americans who died at the Alamo. One or the other, make up your mind Texas. You have a lot to atone for giving us Bu$hshit the traitor.

Yeah, I voted for B.S. in 2000 as well. I don't think it really mattered. Everyone who voted for Bushy Tail could have stayed home and he would have still won.
