This is so much nonsense. This lady tried to commit suicide on 2 prior occasions. She suicided herself. That the Phoenix police were less than vigilent in looking out for what this unstable lady might do to herself is obvious. But the penalty that Phoenix taxpayers will pay for this oversight will not fit the policemen's "crime." If anything the Gotbaum family shares responsibility along with the police for being less than vigilent about Carol's welfare. Why did the Gotbaums allow an emotionally fragile woman to travel alone across country to a rehab clinic? Carol Gotbaum was a wealthy Manhattan socialite whose family is well connected and whose mother-in-law is an attorney so this lawsuit will banqrupt Phoenix even worse than what the freebie entitlements to illegals were doing. Case closed.
I agree with you on that one. But no one seems to be able to understand how she could have committed suicide while handcuffed. However, at 110 lbs, she received a heavy knee in the middle of her back after being wrestled to the ground by three men. What they did to shut her up later, remains a mystery.
Here's your answer - I'm sorry for her unfortunate death - some of you want to give a death by police state dimension to a sad event involving a troubled drunk whose wealthy family could give a sh*t about her - let her travel alone cross country - and is currently trying to make more $ off this poor lady's demise - but I don't see "Carol" as my posterchild for Police State Victim. www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/10/03/2007-10- 03__carol_anne_gotbaums_desperate_last_call.html?ref=rss The airline agent called Phoenix police, who soon grappled with and cuffed the distraught 45-year-old, then shackled her to a bench in an airport holding area Friday. Less than an hour later, Carol Anne Gotbaum was dead, apparently strangled by the 16-inch chain used to hook her handcuffs to the bench. Cops say she appeared to have gotten tangled up trying to shift the cuffs from back to front.
She was killed. Have you heard about her missing neck?
She hung herself. She was an accident waiting to happen. She was discarded by her family members - they did not even bother to pay for a nurse's aide to accompany her on the flight despite the fact that this Manhattanite family had $ coming out of their ears - Carol was abandoned by her friends - her friend did not even bother to meet her at the airport as planned. This woman's life meant nothing to her family until after she died and she presented them with an opportunity to make even more $ than they already have. As for the Phoenix police - they were remiss for letting a raving hysteric to remain handcuffed in a room by herself - they should have had someone stay with her in the room. But regardless - even before 9/11 - this woman would have been detained by authorities - the other passengers would have been alarmed by her behavior and do you blame them? - she was out of control - she did not take her meds like a grown up person should - that she died by hanging either by her own design or by accident is most unfortunate but no she is not my posterchild for Police State. She was thrown away by her family and friends - it was only a matter of time that Carol died.
Yes, she was distraught maybe emotionally disturbed at the time. She was killed and nothing on God's green earth can justify that.
An accident occured either by her hand or by circumstance. It is sad. What's sadder is that her family who had no time to accompany her to the drug rehab center is trying to make $ off her corpse. Her mother-in-law is an attorney - she knows the ropes. Let this woman pass without making her into a symbol for your cause - she is not - she was a throw away wife and daughter-in-law and an abandoned friend but hopefully a mother who tried hard to be better than she was. That's the sum total of what she represents.
So flipping what? Did her mother-in-law send her down there to get murdered? You make no sense tonight.
Government lovers, Fred. Hillary!, Fred, Ruby-Julie-Annie, or the morman-dude with the haircut are the only hope for the United States of Israel, don'cha know? She died to keep me safe. Safety first and foremost, that's my motto. :P Better that a million innocent people die than one "terrorist" get away. KILL 'EM ALL AND LET JEEBUS SORT 'EM OUT!!!
