God that's some funny stuff, considering that we would like to see the same thing with our leadership.

A "conservative" is a draft animal that claims we must wear our yokes more or less as they're placed on us. A "liberal" is a draft animal that claims we have a right to shift the yokes from time to time.

I just watched Blackadder Goes Forth a couple of weeks ago, after having borrowed it from Netflix.

When I was a student at Oxford, I ate meals a couple of times in the dining hall at Brasenose College, where Field Marshall Lord Haig had studied in his day. They had a portrait of him hanging prominently on the wall, and the students liked to throw rolls at it.

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.
