Air America Radio's - Randi Rhodes attacked in NYC park

by ZappoDave [Subscribe]
Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 11:40:19 PM PDT

It was announced on Air America Radio, Jon Elliot's show tonight, that Randi Rhodes was attacked in a park in NYC walking her dog.

There's nothing on the news yet.

From what he said, she's in the hospital.

She was not on the air today, and they had the Lionel Show on instead.

This is why she was not on the air.

Pardon this short diary, but it's late at night and I wanted to get this out.

I wish I had more to offer on it as far as information.

You would think it would be in the News.

Much love to Randi, and I hope she's ok.

We do know ... she's tough.

A fellow blogger's account from the UK:

Sideshow - Uk

Get well soon, Randi Rhodes. I don't usually have time to listen to her show but I tend to leave AAR on when I'm in front of my computer - but when I heard Lionel sitting in for her, I just turned it off. Sorry, I just can't listen to him. But right now I'm listening to John Elliot and he says Randi was attacked last night while she was walking her dog. She wasn't carrying a bag and was just in sweats, and she was beaten up pretty badly and had some teeth knocked out. Elliot is saying it sounds like it was neither a sexual assault nor a robbery and he suspects it was political. The way things are going, he could be right.

I'm not sure what your point is. I never understood the attack on Dan Rather. Are you saying that there's some connection with this?

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a nut.

And it wouldn't surprise me if the attacks on both Rather and Rhodes were politically motivated.

Political fanatics are nuts of a kind, after all.

For what it's worth although there are many political differences between Randi and myself as a broadcaster she is far more interesting to listen to than the likes Rush,Hannity Medved etc....bottom line I would not be surprised to find out the a avid listener from the above was responsible ....part of the culture of hate that now seems the norm.....

Air America Host Randi Rhodes Mugged

By Rogers Cadenhead

Air America Radio host Randi Rhodes was mugged near her Manhattan apartment Sunday night, losing several teeth in a brutal attack that has knocked her off the air while she recuperates, fellow host Jon Elliott announced on his show early Tuesday morning. "It is with sadness that tonight I inform you that my Air America colleague Randi Rhodes was assaulted last night while walking her dog near her New York City home," Elliott told his listeners this morning on Air America.

The attack took place near the corner of 39th Street and Park Avenue, Elliot said.

Because Rhodes was wearing a jogging suit and had neither a purse nor jewelry, Elliott speculated that "this does not appear to me to be a standard grab the money and run mugging."

"Is this an attempt by the right wing hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we're winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"

Rhodes has been with Air America Radio since it launched in 2004, becoming a mainstay of the national liberal radio network. Her show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern weekdays. Lionel filled in for her show Monday afternoon, but no announcement was made of the reason.

An Air America representative confirmed Tuesday morning that Rhodes was mugged. Calls have been made to Rhodes and the New York City police department's press office, and as more details become available they'll be reported here.

Apparently Randi Rhodes's dog Simon is a very small dog.

I haven't heard yet how the dog is doing after the attack.

For handguns, the Sullivan Act qualifies as a may issue act, meaning the local police have discretion to issue a concealed carry license, as opposed to a shall issue act, in which state authorities must give a concealed handgun license to any person who satisfies specific criteria, often a background check and a safety class.

A lot is subject to the discretion of the authorities, and in NYC a permit is very hard to get. You pretty much have to know somebody.

Randi is proud of her looks.

It's a good thing dentistry has progressed so far in recent years. They'll probably be able to fit her with implanted teeth that look as good as the old ones, if not better.

October 16-NEW YORK-On Sunday evening, October 14, Air America host Randi Rhodes experienced an unfortunate incident hindering her from hosting her show. The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded. Ms. Rhodes looks forward to being back on the air on Thursday.

Air America is now denying there was an attack.

I wonder what really happened. There's a good chance we'll never know.
