After watching a few more of the EyeToy vids, it became clear that we should beware of just about anything that we see on the tellie or the internet. It's scary what those machines/programs/whatever they are, can do.

I'm not sure I quite get what this eye toy is all about. Virtual reality? With the ability to move objects?

It seems to be able to figure out where your body is and then it can track you and project you into the PS3 virtual universe where you can interact with whatever lurks in there.

"The Eye of Judgement" is coming to a store near you on Oct. 30. They have it at Amazon.com for $64.99 and it includes the Eye Toy - only $5 over what you would pay for a normal PS3 game.

This might be the fabled killer ap. I'm not sure how it works, but with graphics like that plus interaction, I imagine there will be a ton of games coming to take advantage of the technology. Wii is doing really, really well because of its interactive games, but this is a whole new level.

My understanding is that this thing existed for the PS2 but, clearly, you can't do a lot with 10-yr technology. PS3's 7-core CPU should make the VR a bit more believable.

And... yeah... Wii makes you play tennis with a remote control. Now, with this thing, you should be able to play tennis with a real tennis racquet. Just think of the possibilities... broken windows, smashed TV screen... fun, fun, fun :)))

Just what America needs- another video game.

Its nice to know that I can get lost in cyber fantasy worlds while in the real world US snipers spend their time baiting Afghans who scrounge things like styrofoam and plastic baggies or anything that could be re-used or re-worked- by laying out shiney shell casings and then blow away anyone who goes near them assuming they are "terrorists."

It's good to live in the hedonist bubble paradise of America. Thank God for the troops who make it all possible for me to blow away other losers on internet video games.

This would actually be a completely new class of video games not just a new game. As for the poor Afghans, yes, I am sorry for them but I have little doubt that many of those poor Afghan kids would find playing games quite enjoyable if they had the opportunity.

You can deride the 'so called virtual reality' only to the extent that you can prove that the 'real reality' is in fact real but that can't be demonstrated. In fact, according to John Lennon "nothing is real" (Lenon and McCartney, "Strawberry Fields", Knoph, 1983, pp 180-183).

Oh- a NEW class of video game! Well- that changes things. Excuse me. I haven't played a video game since Intelivision. I lost my virginity before Nintendo came out.

I dunno, Burkeman. A game where I can move around the room busting Dick Cheney in the head with a baseball bat from every imaginable angle might do wonders for my physical health, my mental health, and my outlook in general. Add in Pigboy, Malkin, Hannity, Coulter and a few others, and I could see paying $399 for a PS3.

The minute you did that, a little flag signal would go out over your cable modem or over embedded and undocumented WiFi and the next thing you know you'd be on the no-fly list, no gun purchase list, and be getting audited annually...

You know how this all ends right? It ends with all of us screaming and thrusting bayonettes and bullets into each others guts while fat elites from both "parties" sit back behind their walled compounds and governmment complexes and count the money and wealth they skimmed off us before we begin to "cull" ourselves...

Hey, don't forget that free luxury vacation on a beautiful Caribbean island 90 miles off Key West. The problem with most vacations is that they only last a week or two. This one is not only free, but virtually endless.

I didn't play much since the Atari ST myself (not a dedicated gaming machine but it did come with 'a full MegaByte' or RAM) but my kids got me interested again. We play 'Destroy all humans' together. It's a fun game. 'Destroy All Humans 2' is mostly about destroying Hippies back in the 60's or at least that's where we are now.

The problem with most vacations is that they only last a week or two. This one is not only free, but virtually endless.

Kind of like 'Hotel California'. It was actually a level in an Atari ST game I used to play back in the mid to late 80's.

Geeez, that really does alter a POV. I'd buy all those games.

"Funtime at Club Gitmo with Rush" would be my first purchase.

Other than that Burke, I share your contempt. It is truly pathetic.
