This country was birthed by a violent bloody revolution and now we deny our own birthright.

This is a sure indication that the ruling elite government is perhaps having a case of nerves.

They know how ugly it is going to get when the economic wheels finally fall off and we're not that far away.

How ugly? And I ask earnestly to point me in the direction of what precautions one would be wise to take?

Worst case is that you wake up one morning and find that the dollar has been devalued by half and eveything is suddenly twice as expensive. There is no doubt that the government is debasing the currency by printing too many dollars. The consequence is that the currency loses its purchasing power.

Losing half your wealth and income would be bad, all right, but things could be a lot worse than that.

I just reread Stefan Zweig's memoir Die Welt von Gestern [The World of Yesterday]. Zweig comments on how much luckier Austrians thought Germans were in 1920 or so than they were. At that point, Austrian currency had lost about 90% of its prewar value, whereas German had lost about 50%. (He adds that Germany eventually had it far worse with the hyperinflation of 1923 -- when German currency lost essentially all of its value.)

We'd have social disorder like we can't even imagine right now. Riots everywhere. Is that what the government is preparing for?
