Title: Anyone else using a firewall that tells you who's trying to hack you?

I thought I'd throw this out there, because something very weird has been going on for the last 4 days.

I use a few different firewalls to protect my machine, and one of them tattles on who is trying to hack me.

I only seem to get hacking attempts while on Freedom4um. I can go to every other website and never have a problem, but without fail, the last 4 days, if I hop on here, I get hacking attempts left and right.

Now, the latest one came from COLT, in Portugal. I have the DNS info and everything. I sent them a tersely worded e-mail asking them to explain themselves. Of course they don't speaka no English, so I won't likely get a response.

I'm asking everyone because I know I can't be the only person getting these attacks on my PC. I've been getting them frequently. Some come from China, but most are coming from Europe and Australia.

I thought I would ask everyone to post their problem DNS's that way we could better ascertain who the hell is doing it, and shut the fucking pricks down. If it's some layabout loser who wants to steal money or whatever, they need to be stopped. If it's the feds, one would think they'd have better hackers out there to do their dirty work, than outsource to the socialist Eurotrash.

So, anyway, pm me, or post publicly who's bugging you online. Subscribe to *You Gotta Be Shitting Me*

Yesterday when I clicked at this link: {http://www.uruknet.info/? p=m37613&hd=&size=1&l=e}I get all kind of symptoms of computer crash, every thing shaking, I tried to run Ad-Aware and anti virus without success, I reinstalled XP from original complete program, then ran antivirus and Ad-Aware and cleaned real good the maching and now it is running good.

DO NOT GO TO THAT SITE {the one in Arabic} AT:

I tried to run Ad-Aware and anti virus without success

Ad-Aware used to be good, but it's a bit "outdated".

There are several things which are free (YEAH!!!), and are very competent products.

First, I don't use IE at all, I use Firefox. It's much less vulnerable than IE to spyware. It takes a little longer to load than IE, but then it cruises along faster than IE. It took me about a week to get used to, but now I LOVE it! I wouldn't THINK of going back to IE! I particularly like some of the built in features like an automatic spell-checker (so I catch those little typos when I'm posting), and the ability to "reload" without losing stuff in the event of an unexpected loss of a browsing session (like if you lose power during a storm - when you get "back on", you have the option of reloading the last session - it's even put me right back to typing a reply I was working on here on 4 once without losing what I had already written!) Plus Firefox has some cool "add ons" which are nice to "customize" your browser (like a webpage translator for those foreign sites - and one I like that allows you to "preview" a webpage without having to "click" it and actually go to it)

I have the AVG Anti-Spyware loaded on my machine. (I also have Spyware Terminator) It's pretty damned good. For anti-virus, I use Avast. Norton is alright, but it sure takes up a lot of resources, and is too expensive. Avast is free (as is AVG, which is also good - I just prefer Avast).

Want to surf REALLY anonymously? Then JAP is the way to go. It's free, and bad ass! Your surfing will slow down, BUT you'll be almost untraceable (it's not 100% "watertight", but damn close). Here is what the website (linked below) has to say about it:
"In fact JAP is perhaps a little too good. That's why the German Police insisted in 2004 that a backdoor be put into the product to allow interception of child pornographers. This was done but subsequently removed as a result of court action by JAP."

Another valuable protection is called Sandboxie. It's really neat how it works. You can open a browser session in the "sandbox", and it is totally isolated from the rest of your machine. If you (for example) download something that has something "nasty" (like a trojan), it stays in the "sandbox", and cannot "infect" your machine. After your session, you have the option of "dumping" the sandbox (which basically has the effect of having never had that browsing session), or you can move things "out of the sandbox", and go ahead and put them on your machine. In other words, anything that could possibly "infect" your machine can be totally eliminated BEFORE it can do any harm...

This is the website which has descriptions of all of the above mentioned things as well as many others including free firewalls, rootkit scanners, spam filters, file managers, TCP settings tweakers, popup stoppers - as well as links to each thing.

It may pay to bookmark the site, and visit regularly for updates. I've used some of the recommended things from the site for some time now, and have had a trouble-free machine. And best of all - it's all FREE!!

Just the opposite for me! I use Norton's, it isn't free, but Fry's was selling it with a 100% rebate.

I also have an old Linksys firewall/router - I recommend this type of hardware.

And if you are not into gaming, then Linux is the best OS. It is much more secure than Windows.

Really? If by some chance I do want to use IE for some reason it loads quicker than Firefox on my machine (I do have the latest versions of both, but it's been a long time since I used the IE). But for me the Firefox loads from one page to the next much faster...

Yeah, I've heard lots of good things about Linux. I've never tried it though. Does it work anything like Windows, or is it something that you have to totally get used to doing differently? Is there a way to "try it" without having to "buy it"? Do you have to uninstall windows, or can you have both on your machine? I would like to check it out.

Still, some of the recommendations from that website help out a lot with Windows problems... For those that are going to use Windows, it doesn't hurt to at least check out the site.

Linux is free, by download or from Ubuntu or Red Hat (RH has a charge for CDs, but not downloads). Linux is different, and becoming more friendly. Ubuntu markets itself as being very user friendly.

It really already is sufficiently user friendly. I don´t think it´s any harder to learn that Win. More a case of what you are used to.

I noticed when I use the PM it no longer keeps the PMs I write, was the system changed in that regard so it no longer stores the PMs we write?
