The answer is simple: Jobs.

The answer is also why corporate America won't support Congressman Ron Paul: Big bling with a capital $ sign.

Where does that big bling go? Dividend checks from selling out American jobs to commie counties like China. Corporate America no longer represents America, they have dumped on the very people who built them. But, as the middle class is now getting a glimpse of poverty staring them in the face if things don't turn around, they're waking up to the reality that these greedy corporations care nothing about US, only about their hundred million dollar CEO packages. Remember what I said in an earlier column: Hungry bellies make for angry mobs.

As scary and difficult as it is, Americans need to take a good hard look at what they support, who they work for and do they really care about the long term survival of this republic and their children's future? The destruction of our nation has been underway for nearly a century and the buzzards are now circling. America used to a self-sustaining, self-reliant, productive nation. With the destruction of our most important job sectors, ag, manufacturing and industrial from these evil trade treaties (NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT), combined with the grotesque, unconstitutional, stealing the fruits of our labors to throw around the world, we are now close to a beggar nation. Congress and the White House are bought and paid for in spades by mega corporations who depend on wars to stay in business. Two-time Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, Major General Smedley D. Butler, USMC, said it so well because he lived the Hell of war:

"War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag. I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.

"There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism. It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.

"I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service. I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested."

Congressman Ron Paul is the only GOP presidential candidate to bring sanity to the issue of this immoral, unconstitutional invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Marxist Hillary Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama and John Edwards release a lot of theatrical gas on this issue, but are in the same incestuous money beds as the GOP candidates. Hunter, Tancredo, Rudy Julie-Annie, Romney, McCain and all the rest all support this cash cow of death and destruction. Ron Paul gave this speech September 21, 2001 and I respectfully recommend you take the time to read it because it will cast a whole new light on the current madness; click here.

The military complex is huge. I know. My husband is a retired U.S. Army Colonel who did a tour at the Pentagon. I also worked for DoD. This quagmire in the Middle East has sucked up a trillion BORROWED dollars that could have been avoided. Military contracts to pet companies of Cheney's run into the hundreds of BILLIONS - all borrowed since there's no money in the treasury. The consolidation of agencies into another useless monster, the Department of Homeland Security, is feeding the economy big time - for now: "But since the 9/11 attacks – which spawned high-paying government jobs and billions in defense and homeland security contracts – wealth has spread to surrounding counties all within commuting distance of D.C.....Thanks to the enormous flow of federal tax dollars into the surrounding area since 9/11, Virginia now tops all states for per-capita federal procurement spending with $5,104, according to the latest data from Census. And neighboring Maryland ranks second with $3,908. "That's what drives the private economy here," said University of Baltimore economist Richard Clinch."

As Ron Paul promises a pull out from Iraq and he certainly has no intention of invading Iran, think those thousands of paychecks are going to vote for what's right and moral? No, they will vote for crooks like Rudy Julie-Annie or Marxist Hillary Clinton or any of the other presidential candidates who continue to promise them jobs - the same as when Congress passed another transportation bill to prop up the economy; see here.

Paychecks and dividend checks from Blackwater, Boeing and others drip with the blood of innocents. Paychecks from the various agencies of the Department of Fatherland Security drip with the shame of being a participant in the destruction of our God-given rights; freedom and liberty purchased with so much blood by those who fought to birth this nation. All in the name of this endless "war on terror" built on a mountain of lies. Maj. Gen. Butler was right: Our military is to fight here on U.S. soil, not to invade the world as bullies or "peace keepers" or nation building. This is what those BORROWED war dollars buy. But, millions of paychecks are on the line and tragically, when it comes to the U.S. Constitution, jobs now come first.

How many people work for the IRS? 99,000 at last count. They don't care about the law, they care only about paychecks, the same as the U.S. Attorneys who prosecute these tax cases. The system needs victims to stay in business. The same applies to companies like H & R Block and that whole industry which feeds off fraud and deceit. IRS paychecks drip with blood money. As Congressman Paul has promised to get rid of the IRS as his first order of business as our next president, think those tens of thousands of paychecks will vote for him?

The Federal Department of Education is unconstitutional and must be abolished. That equates to the loss of thousands of paychecks plus thousands who feed off that agency. This $56 BILLION dollar hole in the water for which there is NO money in the treasury to fund, is not to educate children in America, it is to dumb them down and turn them into zombies of the state, programmed to shed their patriotism for this republic and accept global government. Anyone who believes otherwise, needs to do real research. Do you think those thousands of paychecks will vote for a true constitutional advocate of smaller government like Ron Paul? Of course, not. The majority will vote for their paycheck. The same applies to the thousands of paychecks for organizations implementing America's death called Agenda 21. Paychecks v the Constitution.

The same applies to the EPA and dozens of other agencies crushing our rights and freedoms and as my friend, the late Aaron Russo, titled his film, we are going from Freedom to Fascism and it all comes down to paychecks. With the continued destruction of the private sector by Congress and the thousands of fools and ignorant political animals who serve in the state legislatures, Americans are desperate to keep their jobs. All of this spending from an empty treasury requires more and more borrowing and as Peter Schiff, President and Chief Global Strategist, Euro Pacific Capital recently said in a letter to his 60,000 member data base:

"Do not get me wrong; electing Ron Paul will not stop America's day of reckoning from coming. The piper will have to be paid no matter who is in the White House. However, President Ron Paul will be extremely important if we are going to dig our way out of this giant hole. Any other declared presidential candidate will make the job far more difficult if not completely impossible. Rebuilding a viable industrial economy will require a return to our constitutional roots of limited government, low taxes, minimal regulation, and sound money. Ron Paul is the only candidate capable of bring those reforms about. He has already proven that his principles are more important then his own reelection. He is the only man in Congress I know that power did not corrupt. In fact, with Ron Paul as President, many others in Congress might actually find the courage to vote their conscience as well."

Lou Dobbs summed it up pretty well, November 6, 2007, on Larry King Live:

"Dobbs: I assess the campaign, to this point, for 2008 is -- is a pretty sorry enterprise, to be very candid about it....When you look at the originality of thinking that the Democratic candidates -- the Republican candidates are putting forward -- there isn't any. We've listened to -- we've watched the spectacle of Senator Clinton waffling on an answer on driver's licenses. Then we gave her considerable time tonight on our broadcast to explain it. And Candy Crowley tried her very best to try to have her clarify her position. Then we have Senator Edwards and Senator Obama both pursuing her to chastise and chasten her for her waffling and taking up a position that is, again, not in the public interest, in my judgment.

"On the Republican side, we have Fred Thompson, who is, you know, a terrific actor, a terrific fellow. We have Rudy Giuliani, a fine mayor. I mean my God -- we have 300 million people in this country. We're the most diverse nation on the face of the Earth. And in 2004, we came up with two fellows from Yale -- both of them sons of privilege, both of them members of Skull and Bones, one a Democrat and a Republican. And there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between them.

Unfortunately, he went on to say this about all presidential candidates: "I believe that there's somebody out there ready to step forward who has the character, the capacity, the originality...I'm hoping that that person will have enough concern for this country to step forward and represent the people, to step away from the apparatus of these two political parties -- which are nothing more than branding mechanisms. They are simply fundraising organizations. People who define themselves as liberal and conservative, Republican and Democrat, in this country -- there is no difference. Both parties are dominated by corporate America and special interests."

Lou Dobbs seems to deliberately ignore Ron Paul, but he described Congressman Paul perfectly above when he said, " I believe that there's somebody out there ready to step forward who has the character, the capacity, the originality...." Why Lou Dobbs avoids Ron Paul, I have no idea, perhaps he will say so in the future. He knows and understands the bigger picture when he referred to the Skull and Bones secret organization above.

Yesterday, Evangelical Christian grand poobah, Pat Robertson, endorsed a serial adulterer who skulked around cheating on his former wives, lying to them, his friends and children; a supporter of sodomy and baby killing. Rudy Julie-Annie is the antithesis of a follower of Christ and God's word. Rudy Julie-Annie claims to be Catholic, but the church forbids the filth of sodomy and abortion (including the barbaric practice known as partial birth abortion which Julie-Annie supports), not to mention adultery. This is what Pat Roberston wants Evangelical Christians to vote into the White House? They may as well slap God in the face before they go into the voting booth. Congress continues to abrogate their authority via public-private partnerships that create jobs destroying our republic, just like these massive, unconstitutional agencies listed above. What this does is draw more and more Americans onto government paychecks or paychecks from support companies of these off shoots. It's also rampant at the state level. Becoming dependent on a tyrannical government for the food on your table is what makes slaves. As Peter Schiff said above, there's no way to stop what's coming. It will be Americans who fight like Hell to save this country, not career politicians and I hope you will be one of them.

If we can nudge that number to 85% the system will die leaving lots of oafs w/o income. Those who are prepared will suvive, perhaps, to then create a smaller government.

The author makes some good observations and I think he's correct in many respects. However, the reasons Americans overwhelmingly reject freedom are quite complex and varied.

Over half of Americans (approx 52%) receive income from the government. Twenty percent of working Americans are employed by the State. Apparently, they're unconcerned about any moral implications.

Americans tend to be very envious, especially among underachieving have-nots. Envy isn't limited only to a desire to possess that which belong to others. It includes a sense of joy and satisfaction frome watching others succumb to failure or impediment. Helmut Schoeck said, "The envious man thinks that if his neighbor breaks a leg then he will be able to walk better, himself." The State is very good at creating impediments to success and prosperity and people who have failed in life naturally want to see others fail too.

The fallacy of control is the notion that a person can better control his own life by controlling others. This is another reason why people embrace the State. They wish to tell others how to live because they think that it will somehow improve their own lives. We tend to see this kind of behavior among self-righteous busybodies and especially so among religious fanatics.

Lastly, freedom comes with enormous responsibility which people tend to avoid. It requires thought, planning, work, and discipline.

Homogeneity is a necessary but insufficient condition for small government.

The fewer things that "go without saying", the more they will be articulated, in law.

A state that is diverse enough reaches Pareto nadir, where none are happy with the way of things, and none can improve their position via conventional, legal means.

Helmut was confused. Once basic necessities are met, reproductive fitness is rank relative, not absolute. In a rank-relative contest, it can make perfect sense to break your neighbor's leg, even if you break your own finger in the process.
