Bush says deaths in Iraq not in vain Nov 12, 2007 12:32 PM President George Bush marked Veterans Day by attending a memorial service for four US soldiers killed in Iraq, where he told their families the troops had not died in vain. Bush, who is spending the weekend at his Crawford, Texas ranch, visited an American Legion post in nearby Waco to attend the ceremony where two Army soldiers and two Marines were honored with anthems and tributes to their heroism. At the emotional service where some family members were crying, Bush praised the valour of the soldiers and expressed empathy for the aching hearts of those they left behind. "In their sorrow, these families need to know, and families all across our nation of the fallen, need to know that your loved ones served a cause that is good and just and noble," Bush said. "And as their commander-in-chief, I'm making this promise: their sacrifice will not be vain." The unpopularity of the Iraq war, now in its fifth year, has helped push Bush's approval ratings to the lowest levels of his presidency. Frustration with the war is a major theme in the 2008 presidential election campaign to pick his successor. This year has been the deadliest for US troops in Iraq, with more than 850 killed in 2007, and more than 3,850 US troops killed since the US-led invasion in 2003. With both civilian deaths and US military casualties down in recent months, Bush has painted an upbeat picture of Iraq, attributing the reduction in violence to a US troop buildup he ordered at the beginning of the year. However, questions remain over whether the lull in violence is temporary or the start of a more lasting improvement in security. Bush has acknowledged that the Iraqi government had fallen short on efforts to bridge the sectarian divide. Before Bush spoke at the memorial, a White House official said the president planned to criticize congressional Democrats for failing to pass the annual spending bill to fund veterans' services. Trying to gain advantage in the political fight over who cares most about veterans, Bush has repeatedly called on Democrats to send him that funding bill by Veterans Day, the holiday when the nation pays tribute to Americans who have served in the wars. But Bush did not make reference to the budget dispute in his remarks. White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Bush significantly shortened his remarks because the ceremony, which lasted more than an hour, had gone on a long time already. Bush, who normally visits Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day, was in Texas to host talks on Friday and Saturday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Yes they are in vain. Saddam was a monster, ample proof of that. Bush/Breemer/Cheney/neocons have played SO PERFECTLY into Shia Irans hands the Mullahs must be drinking Jack Danials in celebration. This is not going to end well, and the dufus George is at least part of the culprit. Sickening. It seems this will consume Vast amounts of America's youth and treasure. It will get much worse. Plenty of blame for all involved - the wreached Bush Family gets my vote for the contender.

The Bush administration and the Zionists have brought to America a atrocity that is yet to be calculated. And we are still caught in the web. I predict several millions will die from this. And I may well be lowballing the cost. Humans and their political greedy pig leaders have learned NOTHING form the last several centuries. And neither have the fodder.

"Satan / Cheney in "08" can bush just not diagram a sentence, or is he calling america a "nation of the fallen"? although it was surely unintended, it's actually a pretty apt description of the u.s. in the 21st century.
And most who do believe in Bush and his wars will never change their minds. The man who is capable of admitting he was wrong or of critically assessing his beliefs and actions from objective criteria is uncommon even in countries with populations steeped in classical western tradition and highly educated. In countries in which the foundations of western critical thinking were abandoned years ago and the population a sea of ignorant fat goo blobs incapable of following even the most simple of logical proofs in arguments such men are non existent. In the ruins of Berlin- with a million Soviet soldiers and 10,000 tanks surrounding the city- with no possibility of even getting a conditional surrender never mind "Victory"- members of the Nazi party- who had bought one lie after another for 15 years- and had shifted their beliefs in the face of staggering inconsistencies and incoherence in the party line- whose Dear Leader was directly responsible for the plight of their country- were going around the city hanging "Traitors" who didn't believe in "final victory." Poderhertz was said to be ranting like a madman on a "National Review" sponsered cruise about how Iraq was a "stunning success"- even better than he expected. The American ideologue- wether left or right- is quite incapable of rational logical thought, empathy, self examination or assessment, or of applying objective standards- indeed- he has nothing but disdain for them. All is political. This is a country with competing ideological foes whose realities are ruled by political subjective criteria and it is a country that is highly militarized - a recipe for disaster and bloodshed as soon as the first bread line forms.
How I wish there had been a "storm of the century" at sea at the time and place of that cruise.
