In 2004, it was fairly common for Bush and Cheney to tell voters that voting for John Kerry might put their lives at risk. The VP once famously said a Democratic president would mean we’d be “hit again,” just like on 9/11.

But leave it to Tom Tancredo to run an ad dramatizing an actual terrorist attack in a campaign commercial — complete with a loud explosion at the end — implicitly telling voters that unless they vote for him, immigrants might kill their family.

That this commercial might actually appear on Iowa television screens is perhaps the most twisted news of the presidential campaign thus far. “Tancredo: Before It’s Too Late” — perhaps the most jaw-dropping self-parody in modern times.

To be sure, I suspect this a desperate stunt, intended to help get Tancredo some attention. Right now, he’s a third-tier afterthought, perceived as a xenophobic nut. But with this ad on the air, people will know he’s a xenophobic nut, and everyone will be talking about how painfully insane a xenophobic nut he really is.

When you’re struggling with 2% support, there’s apparently no such thing as bad publicity.

Worked for Johnson. He received the largest plurality in American history.

JFK's murder was much more of a factor, imo.

Do you recall the TV spots of mushroom clouds run by Johnson????

All visual and the sheep could understand what they saw.

Nearly 65 per cent of the votes went to Johnson.

I'm pondering on my personal list of worst Presidents.

Can't make up my mind on the 2 & 3 spots. LBJ and Lincoln are neck and neck.

Numero uno was no contest, of course.

Republicans (Democrats for that matter) ....... HAD ENOUGH?

The ads never specified anyone.

The visual was overpowering. Their chant was, "a vote for Goldwater is a vote for war". I do not recall with whom, just anyone that happened by perhaps.

So dumb me I voted for Goldwater and we got one hell of a long war.

Dumb me voted for Bush too. Never learned.

Illegal immigration (and unrestricted legal immigration) is one of the biggest problems facing America, but not for the reasons that idiot Tancredo tells people. It's not about a "terrorist threat," the real issue is about turning the US into a Third World economy and society. "Terrorism" is way down on the list of realistic problems, it ranks about as high as the threat posed by meteors.

All Tancredo is doing is turning a legitimate issue and cause into something ridiculous, and providing fodder for the open borders lobby of Kennedy, McCain, and Bush. He deserves his 1% in the polls.

That ad is so stupid and insulting to one's intelligence that it could easily be mistaken for parody.

I am not a big follower of this issue- but a buddy of mine is very much against illegal immigration and up on this topic- and he has always thought Tancredo was an establishment putupjob on the issue- to try and make those concerned about it to look like idiots and fools and whackos. After seeing this ad- I have to wonder if had Tancredo pegged all along.

I always thought that Tancredo was a false flag operation. Except for the illegal immigration issue, he's with Bush and the neocons all the way. I think he was put out there by the Bush administration and the RNC to neutralize the immigration issue.

There is nothing factually incorrect about the 20,000,000 illegal aliens. Whare he makes his mistake is in placing the blame for the terrorists in London, Spain and Russia on the Islamic extremists. The blame belongs on the perpetrators in Israel, the CIA, and in the White House.

What he should have done is tell people about the 25 people a day who are killed by illegal aliens every day. About 13 a day are killed by bad drivers who are here illegall;y. And about 12 are murdered. SOme are raped and murdered.
