Bush plans keeping power and dashing any hopes for a genuine democratic transition

At a recent press conference, President Bush publicly stated he was planning on staying in power which only fueled the talk on the Internet that there would be another terrorist attack and Bush would cancel the 2008 election.

This is an excerpt from the news conference:

Q: Mr. President, following up on Vladimir Putin for a moment, he said, recently, that next year, when he has to step down according to the constitution, as the president, he may become prime minister; in effect keeping power and dashing any hopes for a genuine democratic transition there.

BUSH: I’ve been planning that myself.

Why should he? He was hired to do a job and it's not near complete. The dollar still has some value, the cost of a home is coming down nicely, but it still has a way to go, Iraq is decades away from a robust American democracy, Iran has become a clear and present threat to Israel, Afghanistan is heating up again and we haven't a clue where bin Laden is. No way he can leave now.
