I think it's okay to have a topic like this given that the media has so happily reported on the Castro death watch parties in Miami. Anyways, I am don't have the latest so, if anyone can provide updates on this topic, they should be all very interesting.

Just curious. If Cheney dies, who gets to be the VP? Can Bush appoint anyone he wishes? Like... Condi maybe?

No. The Constitution has rules for this sort of thing. Not that it's an impediment to this Administration.

oops, 25th amendment........should've researched first (from wiki)

The Constitution did not provide for Vice Presidential vacancies until the 25th amendment was ratified — an omission that had been debated for over a century; the Vice Presidency was vacant due to death or resignation (or succession to the Presidency, per the John Tyler precedent) several times, often for years. Under the 25th amendment, whenever there is a vacancy in the office of Vice President of the United States, the President nominates a successor, who is confirmed by the majority vote of both houses of Congress.

Then Bush could get Condi in the saddle after Cheney dies. She would be a good match for either Hillary or O'Bama. In fact, if the central social engineers decided that we needed to get 'a black' in the WH, providing the voters with 'a choice' between a black man or woman would be close to perfect.

yeah but castro's a freedom-lovin' libertarian compared to our guys. I guess we'll all find out if it's ok next time we try to travel. my guess is I ought to take better care of my car, just in case.

According to the 25th Amendment, Bush can appoint whoever he likes, but that choice must confirmed by majority votes in the House and Senate.

Condi could walk in, like Al Haig when Reagan was shot, and proclaim, "I am in charge here."
