Get God, Make Money, Tell Government Off Benny Hinn, pictured, became the latest super-rich and shady televangelist to tell the Senate Finance Committee to go fuck themselves today and keep their collective noses out of his church’s totally clean financial records. A month ago, Finance Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley sent Hinn and 6 other creepy dudes a lengthy questionnaire probing their finances to determine whether they were inappropriately enriching themselves through their “nonprofit” religious work. Only one church, Joyce Meyer Ministries, provided the information while Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church International told Grassley to get a subpoena or shove it. Benny wasn’t quite so rude, it’s just that with Christmas coming he’s so busy making money off his parishioners he can’t adequately respond until next year. [Yahoo News]

I am not a Christian but I do not believe the Senate has the right to ask ministers how much money they make. If he has violated any laws that is up to the police and the courts. If I were Hinn, I would point out that over 4 billion dollars a week is being stolen from the taxpayers because the Senate and the Congress have refused to implement proper auditing procedures for federal spending as recommended by the Grace Commission some 25 years ago. At that time, they said we could save 100 billion dollars a year. We just passed the 6th anniversary of Donald Rumsfeld's infamous 2001 press conference where he admitted the Pentagon could not trace 2.3 trillion dollars in government spending. I would say that in my opening remarks if I were him.

I agree with you 100%. Hinn is not a 501c3 church, and therefore is not under federal jurisdiction. It's none of their business how much money he takes in or what he does with it. He would be setting a bad precedent if he gave in to their stupid request. If contributors don't like what he's done with their money they can quit giving, without needing to fear jackbooted thugs coming in and holding them down and wacking off their hands and feet like the feds did with Gordon Kahl.
