Title: What about Jim Webb as RP's Vice President?

I'm thinking more about posters' comments on another thread regarding suggestions for RP's running mate...and I know at this point we are getting ahead of ourselves, but what the heck, it's Christmas and it's okay to be frivalous...

Perhaps Judge Napolitano might be a better fit as Attorney General.

And Senator Jim Webb ( a former GOP'er who left the party because of the neocon take-over) might be a good candidate for RP's Vice President. Webb is very personable and articulate and he is old school conservative. ( I don't see him as a Dem frankly. That marriage is one of convenience for all parties concerned).

So what do you guys think of my VP candidate suggestion?

I like your candidate immensely. However, the dual party loyalists would freak out with such a combination.

But it takes the issue of the 2 fraud party charade and puts it front and center in front of the electorate.

It may make them realize that it's the Prez&VP candidates' platform not the R or D after their names that voters should consider before casting their votes.

These are the sorts who wouldn't vote for Ron Paul anyway. Those who take R and D seriously are either Bushbots or Clintonbots.

Fred: However, the dual party loyalists would freak out with such a combination.

Rupert: These are the sorts who wouldn't vote for Ron Paul anyway. Those who take R and D seriously are either Bushbots or Clintonbots.

There's a lot of discontent that I'm reading on Dembot forums like kos and du. Ditto for GOPbot forums lp and fr.

A combination ticket of an outsider R with an outsider D might provide something that the cast aside and unhappy former R & D loyalist voters can identify with and be attracted to.

Also Jim Webb would be groomed to take over from the RP presidency so there would be an AmericaFirst heir apparent in place to go the distance after RP retires from public office.

Peppa: No more 'inside' boys. After Sanchez decided to 'tell the truth' after his tour, Generals speaking AFTER they got 'theirs', and so on, erased trust of their sworn word and loyalty. No thanks.

Cynicom: I dont like military academy types.

I've considered all your remarks careully and I found an article in NRO ...hold your nose and read it please - because it's written by a personal friend of Jim Webb and it answers many of your concerns.

Ghost, I think Jim Webb is a DINO - dem in name only. In fact in the article, his friend says there's no chance the likes of Harry Reid will re-mould Jim Webb.

Cyni and Peppa - Jim Webb is not your typical West Point officer type. He remembers his loyalties to those left behind, whose lives have been shattered by war and forgotten by those who sent them to fight foreign wars. Jim Webb ended up working as general counsel for a veterans association after he graduated from Georgetown Law School.

Peppa - Jim Webb is no beltway "insider". He says he doesn't wear a bridle well and it shows.

All I'm suggesting is that you keep an open mind to my fanciful suggestion.

What do you guys think of Jim Webb as RP's VP candidate?

It's a very attractive idea. I think it's improbable Webb would leave the Democratic Party so soon after joining it, but who knows?

To reason, indeed, he was not in the habit of attending. His mode of arguing, if it is to be so called, was one not uncommon among dull and stubborn persons, who are accustomed to be surrounded by their inferiors. He asserted a proposition; and, as often as wiser people ventured respectfully to show that it was erroneous, he asserted it again, in exactly the same words, and conceived that, by doing so, he at once disposed of all objections. - Macaulay, "History of England," Vol. 1, Chapter 6, on James II.

What's easier: marrying the same woman again or moving back to a house you used to own and you sold.

I'm reminded of the rumor that Reagan was required to put Bush on the ticket by the Rockefeller wing of the GOP. What will they do if RP wins the nomination? How much influence can they exert on the VP choice? How will they exert that influence, if so?

I'd like to think that they would have no influence at all, but as the song says, "no one knows what goes on behind closed doors." If Dr. Paul was convinced that it would help further his goals without requiring him to sacrifice his moral and political values, I could see him going for it. However, I believe with all my heart that Ron Paul is an honest, virtuous man and would not bend to the threats and/or manipulations of any wing of the Republicratic Party.

The 12th Amendment states "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

Other than that, I don't know if there are any laws about VP selection.
