I think Russians like Golitsn and Bezmenov, as well as Rand, idolized the west. It's a reasonable thing to do: pinning one's hopes on the free world. Solzhenitsyn was the more cynical, reserved defector. He came here to attack us for being weak. His Harvard speech delivered in 1978 is a massive attack on the west's complacency.
I see truth in Rand's criticism of the Christian right in America, and I see truth in Solzhenitsyn's rejection of institutionalized godlessness. Both are interesting people, with valuable lessons to teach us.
