Isa 9:6 — For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isa 9:7 Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

One God Of The Whole World

From the "dark ages" of Christendom, brought about by the theories and ideas of men, utter confusion has been left in the minds of people concerning the truth about one God. Without the knowledge of the truth, which only comes to an honest heart by divine revelation, many have misunderstood the manifestations of God, and have tried to form a doctrine of three Persons or Deities. Therefore, many are confused by this false, erroneous, man-made doctrine called the "Trinity". Do not take mere theories and ideas of men; learn the truth about this important subject. "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is ONE LORD." Deut. 6:4. This commandment given to Israel is confirmed in the New Testament (Mark 12:29) and must be obeyed by all Christians today. "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19. "God is a Spirit..." John 4:24. "No man hath seen God at any time..." John 1:18. Jesus speaking to Phillip "He who has seen me has seen the father..." Jn:14:9.

Throughout the history of man, God, the invisible Spirit, has revealed Himself to man through various manifestations. Although there have been many manifestations of God throughout the history of man, the Scriptures teach us that there are basically three offices or positions in which God has manifested himself. These three manifestations are a revelation of his plan of redemption for mankind, his authority, and his attributes. These three offices of manifestation (or attributes of his deity) are: God the Father in creation, God the Son (coming as Jesus) in redemption, and God the Holy Ghost in emanation (emanation defined as the spirit of Christ going forth) to indwell the body of the New Testament Church on the Day of Pentecost, thus sealing the promise "it is finished". This same spirit being the spirit of God dwelling in the Tabernacle of the OT. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily - Col:2:9. Until Christ fulfilled his ministry, finished his work, ascended into Glory, then sent forth his spirit, there was no fullness of the Holy Spirit to dwell in the tabernacle of men. There is now for all those who are born of his spirit, the Holy Ghost, the spirit of Christ dwelling in the tabernacle of men. Chapter 4. JESUS IS GOD

"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9).

The fact that Jesus is God is as firmly established in Scripture as the fact that God is one. The Bible teaches that Jesus is fully God and fully man. In this chapter we will discuss the former; in Chapter 5 - THE SON OF GOD the latter.

In the next few sections we will present and discuss scriptural proofs that Jesus is God, numbering them for the reader's convenience.

The Old Testament Testifies That Jesus Is God

1. Isaiah 9:6 is one of the most powerful proofs that Jesus is God: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father The Prince of Peace." The terms child and son refer to the Incarnation or manifestation of "The mighty God" and "The everlasting Father." ........

I always thought it should be "Wonderful Counsellor," not "wonderful, counsellor."

What a difference a comma can make. [this is one of my pet topics.] In a nutshell, you MUST connect this verse with Judges 13:18. If you scroll down at the link:

http://www.blueletterbible.org/tsk_b/Isa/9/6.html to "his name", you will see:

Jdg 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it [is] secret?

This is the "Angel of the Lord" speaking to the parents of Samson, a Danite.

If you look up this word "secret" at Judges 13:18 in the concordance, it does not say "secret"; it says "Wonderful":

I'm really glad you asked this question. I don't know why I have never read Matthew Henry on this chapter before, or if I did, why it never hit me like it is right now. I had more than a couple lightbulbs go off while reading it.

For the purposes of this thread, I think the most important thing I gleaned from it is this regarding Samson, of the tribe of Dan:

"....4. He foretels the service which this child should do to his country: He shall begin to deliver Israel. Note, It is very desirable that our children may be not only devoted entirely to God themselves, but instrumental for the good of others, and the service of their generation—not recluses, candles under a bushel, but on a candlestick. Observe, He shall begin to deliver Israel. This intimated that the oppression of the Philistines should last long, for Israel’s deliverance from it should not so much as begin, not one step be taken towards it, till this child, who was now unborn, should have grown up to a capacity of beginning it. And yet he must not complete the deliverance: he shall only begin to deliver Israel, which intimates that the trouble should still be prolonged. God chooses to carry on his work gradually and by several hands. One lays the foundation of a good work, another builds, and perhaps a third brings forth the top stone. Now herein Samson was a type of Christ, (1.) As a Nazarite to God, a Nazarite from the womb. For, though our Lord Jesus was not a Nazarite himself, yet he was typified by the Nazarites, as being perfectly pure from all sin, not so much as conceived in it, and entirely devoted to his Father’s honour. Of the Jewish church, as concerning the flesh, Christ came, because to them pertained the promise of him, Rom. 9:4, 5. By virtue of that promise,. he long lay as it were in the womb of that church, which for many ages was pregnant of him, and therefore, like Samson’s mother, during that pregnancy was made a holy nation and a peculiar people, and strictly forbidden to touch any unclean thing for his sake, who in the fulness of time was to come from them. (2.) As a deliverer of Israel; for he is Jesus a Saviour, who saves his people from their sins. But with this difference: Samson did only begin to deliver Israel (David was afterwards raised up to complete the destruction of the Philistines),**** but our Lord Jesus is both Samson and David too, both the author and finisher of our faith......"

BTW, the "Angel" is of course, Jesus, in case you didn't already know it, or have not figured it out. See....

I think you're one that doesn't believe in conspiracies, so I won't go into what all I have long thought about this verse, and it's comma or lack therof, long before blueletterbible published their explanation of this verse. I have shouted about this subject more than once, sounding I am sure, like some kind of nut. I'll give you the article that started me down this search for the truth many years ago, and you can read it or not, contemplate it or not, but thank you again, for raising the question.

"....Here is, 1. Samson’s birth. The woman that had been long barren bore a son, according to the promise; for no word of God shall fall to the ground. Hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 2. His name, Samson, has been derived by some, from Shemesh, the sun, turned into a diminutive, sol exiguus—the sun in miniature, perhaps because, being born like Moses to be a deliverer, he was like him exceedingly fair, his face shone like a little sun; or his parents so named him in remembrance of the shining countenance of that man of God who brought them the notice of him; though they knew not his name, yet thus, now that his sayings had come to pass, they did him honour. A little sun, because a Nazarite born (for the Nazarites were as rubies and sapphires, Lam. 4:7, and because of his great strength. The sun is compared to a strong man Ps. 19:5); why should not a strong man then be compared to the sun when he goes forth in his strength? A little sun, because the glory of, and a light to, his people Israel, a type of Christ, the Sun of righteousness...." - Matthew Henry

I didn't notice this until afterward.

Interesting about the "strong man", as Christ BOUND THE STRONG MAN on His first coming:

Matthew 12:29, Mark 3:27, Revelation 20:2.
