I'm sympathetic...I have driven on ice, and once your car starts sliding...forget it. Just sit back, enjoy the ride, and hope for the best. Still...this is funny as hell. That first car takes out everybody in sight...ROTF!

You should see the body damage on my 2000 Chevy Cavalier.

It started with a teenage boy in an SUV, who rear-ended me. Then a middle-aged man in an SUV rear-ended me. Then a woman on the highway -- in an SUV -- rear-ended me. Later that day another woman, in some old beater, rear-ended me.

Then some Bosnian or Serbian or whatever they are, ran a red light, hit some guy, and spun him around so he put a dent the size of a bowling ball in my front fender.

Then a woman in a little car made a right turn into my rear axle, bending it so bad I had to get it replaced.

Then I made the mistake of parking on the street and somebody sideswiped my car, caving in the front and back driver's-side doors.

I also have a vague memory of some guy backing up at a stoplight and hitting me. I'm not too sure it was the Cavalier, but I think it might have been.

What made the second and third assholes think they could do better than the first asshole? Seriously folks, if you are falling to your hands and knees trying to get to your car, better to go back in the house and make a cup of coffee and wait for the thaw, unless you got tire chains.

Yes, if you don't have chains or studs you are out of control. Four wheel drive means next to nothing in these conditions.

I was on I84 in Waterbury, CT one winter, and I had to get of at the exit for RT8. It had be drizzling and the highway and exit ramp are elevated. I began to apply my brakes and all 4 wheels locked up. Apparently I was on a sheet of ice. I managed to retain control and and basically skidded right by the ramp, and good thing because what I saw on the ramp was hysterical.

It was a clover leaf arrangement, and starting at the very bottom, there must have been 50 cars, all sideways, stacked up against each other, coming 3/4 of the way up the ramp. lol

I wouldn't drive on I-84 on dry pavement...those people are absolutely foaming at the mouth insane.

Last year I slid across four lanes of traffic and into the ditch, fortunately no damage to anything...funny, I didn't see my life pass before my eyes...just my checkbook.

I almost bought the farm last night on an icy road in 4wd. Luckily, I didn't panic, kept it under control, and avoided going into a stream by about 2 feet. hehehe

Move South

Will Fiji work? Lat. 17 degrees SOUTH.

I'll let you know when I am there in February. (Not bringing tire chains)

I had an aquantance laugh at seeing me walk my Bridgestone MB1 mountain bike during a rare period of icy roads here in Eugene, Oregon.

He chided me saying I must of been bullshitting about knowing how to ride on snow and ice well.

Of course I pointed out then that being a good bike handler in those conditions is a moot point if the bad car drivers hit and kill you.

He conceded the point and apologized. I will not go out on icy roads with so many people who do not understnd how Newton's third law of motion -- which deals in part with how a body in motion tends to stay moving -- who could ruin my day out there.

Just got my Jeep Wagoneer's 4x4 working today, do for tomorrows supposed snow storm I'll be ready, BUT Newtons third law does little for stopping. If the snow is really heavy, the good thing is is that few people are out.

I don't like being a target, on a bike or a jeep.
