I'd like to see the movie, but I prefer to read the book. But tonight History Channel had a 2-hour documentary about him, with an interview with all the main characters, and I don't think the movie can touch this. It was great, particularly since it must have been done pretty rapidly to take advantage of the movie release. It will repeat at 11 CST, if you're interested.
If you are not familiar with it, it's about a coke-sniffing, prostitute-loving party boy in Congress who had the right committee assignments to get weapons sent to Afghanistan rebels secretly in time to beat the Soviets. It's pretty fascinating, and all the people involved are interviewed except for the CIA guy who set it all up for him. The stripper/belly dancer who got the Egyptian defense minister to cough up the weapons, the rich anti-commie socialite who seduced the head of the appropriations committee, CIA guys, reporters, and Charlie himself are all there. It's perhaps the best thing History Channel has ever done.
Four thumbs up. (I'm a mutant.)
