The TSA has discovered that on January 1st, 2008 lithium batteries are going to become more dangerous than they were on December 31, 2007. Thankfully, they've taken action by forbidding them beginning in 2008. Lithium Metal Battery, Spare or Installed (over 2 grams lithium): The Department of Transportation's web site doesn't say why they're forbidden. They just are.

You know, the first outfit that figures out how safely and easily induce comas in people, then put them into shipping tubes and load them onto aircraft freight style is going to make metric tons of money. What could be safer than transporting rows and rows of unconscious people? Who's going to hijack a plane when they're knocked out? Not to mention you can pack more people in per square foot, so can load up more per plane. And you don't need to set the planes up with any amenities, no food, no seating, no stewardesses... just a nurse or two on hand to be there in case anyone's bio signs go wonky. Plus, what a deal for the passengers. You walk in, lie down, get knocked out... and don't wake up until you're at your destination. If the flight is delayed for several hours on the ground, you won't know or care. I can see it now.. "Fly Coma Airlines! We all know air travel sucks donkey balls, so why not fly unconscious? " Yes, I'm being facetious. Kinda....

At one time.. but then started getting all pissy and tight-assed about their beverage policies. You can tell all of the experienced travelers on the planes nowadays, they're 'luded to the gills and sitting there stoned out of their minds on pills from their doctors. All you have to do is go to your doctor and say "I'm going to be taking a long airplane trip" and they'll be leaping for their prescription pad and writing you a scrip for an extra-large bottle of elephant tranquilizers. They go to medical conferences all the time. They know. They understand....
